ST-Line’s appeal enhanced by new design.
Ford has just revealed the updated Explorer, and the pricing for all models has been released. However, it is worth noting that the new Ford Explorer lineup only offers four different options, compared to the previous 2024 range which had a total of eight choices. If you are interested in learning more about each individual model, you can visit the 2024 Explorer configurator, now accessible online.
Several trims have recently been discontinued, including the entry-level model known simply as the Explorer. It had a price tag of $36,860. The XLT, priced at $38,670, is also no longer available. Both the Limited, which cost $47,520, and the off-road capable Timberline, priced at $49,430, have also been axed. However, Ford has assured that an off-road version of the Explorer will make a comeback. Lastly, the luxurious King Ranch, with a hefty price of $54,525, is now a thing of the past.
Moving on to the 2025 lineup, we have some exciting options in store. First up, there’s the Active, a completely new tier that has been added. Alongside that, we also have the ST-Line, ST, and Platinum models available in this range.
Beginning with the Active, we observe that Ford has merged their previous entry-level and XLT trims into one streamlined package. Priced at a reasonable $39,625, the Active provides excellent value. In contrast to its lower-spec predecessors, this trim comes equipped with more features as standard. The small and unimpressive touchscreen interface has been replaced, and all models now include the advanced Ford Digital Experience. This system combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a 13.2-inch horizontal touchscreen display, featuring state-of-the-art connectivity options, including built-in Google capabilities.
Many basic characteristics shared among all models consist of heated front seats that can be powered to adjust, eight USB chargers, a built-in WiFi router equipped with 5G connectivity for a maximum of ten individuals, and a Class III Trailer Package designed to utilize the 5,000-pound towing capacity to its fullest potential. In terms of safety, the new Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0 has been implemented in all versions, replacing the outdated version previously used.
This significant price hike of nearly $3,000 from the previous base model is certainly justifiable.
The ST-Line caters to those seeking the appearance of the ST, but content with the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine that boasts a solid 300 horsepower. Despite its technological advancements over its predecessor, the ST-Line comes at a significantly lower price of $2,070 compared to the 2024 model. Evidently, this particular model is a top performer in the Explorer lineup, and offering it at a more budget-friendly price is a shrewd decision. Both the Active and ST-Line also come in well below the average cost of a new vehicle, giving Ford an advantageous edge.
The price for the fully-loaded ST has now gone up to $55,205, a significant jump of $5,000 from the previous model. Our investigation revealed that Ford has decided to include the most popular optional add-ons as standard features. In the 2024 version, buyers had to pay an additional fee for the ST High-Performance Package, which consisted of 21-inch alloy wheels, superior brakes, and eye-catching red brake calipers. Luckily, these upgrades are now included in the base model, enabling drivers to fully utilize the impressive 400-hp EcoBoost V6 engine.
The recently launched flagship Platinum model now has a price of $51,525, a considerably lower amount compared to its predecessor in 2024 that was priced at $54,770. This new pricing may raise some questions, but there is a logical explanation behind it. In the past year, the top-of-the-line 2024 Ford Explorer Platinum boasted the powerful 3.0-liter EcoBoost engine as its standard option, whereas the latest 2025 version is equipped with a smaller 2.3-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost engine. If you wish to have the V6 option, it can still be added, though it will come with an extra charge of $4,615.
Ford made a savvy decision by expanding the appeal of its Platinum line to a wider audience. This model caters to individuals who desire luxurious features without the hefty price tag associated with excessive power. However, Ford still offers the option for those seeking a faster ride. Despite cutting the range in half, Ford has managed to meet all needs and preferences.
The latest pricing places the Ford Explorer in a mid-tier position, as the Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade offer lower prices, while the Toyota Grand Highlander is slightly pricier. The Ford Explorer now falls in the average price range, with the Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade offering more affordable options, whereas the Toyota Grand Highlander exceeds the Explorer’s cost.

I like how you make it simple. How relatable!
