The list of automakers includes Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen, and General Motors. A case was also filed against Ford, however it was dismissed on appeal by a Seattle-based judge who stated that the “interception and recording of mobile phone activity did not meet the Washington Privacy Act’s standard.”

The case was posited by the plaintiffs that Honda had been saving and obtaining versions of all SMS from connected devices in Honda CR-Vs, which were in models made from 2014 onwards.
