In a past video, Derek had announced he’d executed nominal alterations, outfitting his Mustang with a full exhaust system, E85 fuel, some drag racing tires, plus a handful of aesthetic improvements. Prior to Derek’s race, he and Joel had a brief dialogue inside of his Azure Ford Explorer ST. He questioned what Joel expected the deluxe Explorer would accomplish; yet Joel claimed he patronized not to forecast any numbers in order to avoid being disheartened. Despite this, he did eventually offer that should it reach 12 seconds, then it would be considered a triumph.

Following his conversation with the team, Derek is ready to test whether his upgrades will make an impact. Over the course of his first attempt, he achieves an 11.8-second quarter mile time. Derek appears dejected by this outcome but makes note that his tires are pretty worn out.

Derek’s subsequent effort was slightly more successful at 11.7 seconds, though he remained convinced he could to do better. Tire replacements, he suggested, would prove especially beneficial, while a few minor engine modifications could also likely provide an extra boost of power. Sure enough, one last attempt yielded progress, as Derek recorded an amazing 11.6-second 1/4 mile time.

Before concluding the video, Derek speaks about his forthcoming strategies with the Mustang. Subsequent progression is incorporating some kind of forced induction to aid in accelerating those drag figures. We are eager to witness how a supercharger or turbocharger can kick the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 motor into gear.
