Rear Axle Fault: Potential Catastrophe
Toyota has stated that certain versions of the Tacoma from past years will require owners to bring them back to dealerships for updates as a result of a recent recall. The Tacoma is currently the top-selling midsize truck in the United States, with 234,768 trucks sold in 2023. Given the widespread popularity of the Tacoma, the problem is spread out among many owners.
Toyota has reported that approximately 381,000 vehicles in the United States are impacted by a recent issue. These units are produced and sold only within the US, as it is the home of production for the affected pickup. The recall applies exclusively to model years 2022 to 2023, meaning that the newest version of the nameplate, revealed just this past May, is not included in the recall. Unfortunately, the exact production dates of the affected units remain unclear as the safety recall report has not yet been released on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.
Based on Toyota’s statement, it has been discovered that the retaining nuts of the rear axle in the Tacoma may gradually loosen due to the presence of welding debris during the assembly process. The potential consequences of this issue could be hazardous for both the driver and other individuals on the road.
According to Toyota’s press release regarding the recall, “If separation takes place, it may impact the stability of the vehicle and its braking capabilities, potentially heightening the chances of a collision.”
Undoubtedly, the solution to this problem is not complex. Toyota dealers will examine the rear axle of the Tacoma and re-tighten the nuts at no cost. Nevertheless, if specific parts of the axle are harmed as a result of the faulty assembly, they will be either fixed or substituted.
Toyota Tacoma drivers will receive a notification by mail in April of the year 2024. However, given the potential hazards, owners are advised to promptly contact their local dealers to arrange for an examination. It is always wise to take precautionary measures. The Japanese car company has not revealed if there have been any incidents, harm, or fatalities related to this matter.
Recently, a substantial effort to recall numerous vehicles was launched only a few days following three safety recalls that were declared for more than 300,000 Toyota and Lexus automobiles in the United States. The voluntary recalls were due to flaws in transmission components, rear head restraints, and faulty software programming. Remedies for these issues were promptly provided to customers who were affected.
