Small Sports Car’s Fierce V8 Battle with Mustangs, Challenger, and Camaro
Rephrase: For those who need a memory refresher of the first-generation Mazda MX-5 Miata stats–here it goes. When it was first produced in 1990, this long-lasting sports car had a light weight of 2,100 pounds and contained a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with ideal weight distribution. The NA Miata shown in this video from Drag Racing and Car Stuff remains a 2,100-pound vehicle; however, all other components went through massive changes.
It’s difficult to say just how radical this setup is without a full spec sheet, however, the YouTube username of ‘Lsx_Miata239’ assists in giving us some indication. It appears this Mazda MX-5 has had a Chevrolet LSX V8 engine included, and there is far more than only an engine swap involved here! The gigantic turbocharger stands out above the front end of the car, while much of the motor is higher than the fenders. This beast can do wheelies like nobody’s business, as evidenced by its consistent 8-second laps on the video.
Is there sufficient power in modified muscle autos from Detroit to compete? The video highlights a fresh competition at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida, where all other vehicles were 8-second chutes wearing cars. Round one delivered a close combat where an emerald Dodge Challenger lost in meager 0.19 seconds. Clash after collision become tighter, therefore when the white Ford Mustang fifth-generation pulled ahead at the launch, panicky Miata exceed the speed of light and sealed off with surprise victory!
With the preliminary stages now having been completed, it’s time for the MX-5 to take on another Mustang in the semi-finals. Following some psyche-outs during the starting line up, the Miata motorist stands staunchly in pole position; and remarkably, it’s yet another photo finish with a staggering victory only measured as a mere 7 thousandths of a second! To put it into perspective once again: The winner was separated by 7 thousandths of a second!
The video culminates with one more contest after this astonishing fight, displaying a turbocharged fourth-gen Chevrolet Camaro. Is the last challenge between Mustang and Camaro, or is the Miata taking the limelight? It all makes for thrilling racing, so be sure to watch the video and take in everything!
