Revolutionary Motorsport Venue in Saudi Arabia Promises Unprecedented Features for Extreme Racing
The initial turn ascends a whopping 20 stories, while the primary straight runs parallel to a rollercoaster. The configuration seamlessly blends street and track segments, allowing for potential expansion into one of the most extensive race courses on the globe.
The race track at Qiddiya City, situated near Riyadh, is called the Speed Park Track. The renowned Formula One designer Hermann Tilke has specifically created its design, while Alexander Wurz, a retired Formula One driver, has given his expertise and input on the layout from a racer’s perspective. The individuals involved in this project have collaborated with the developers of the brand-new city to ensure a seamless integration of the track with the neighboring urban recreational areas.
The venue, currently in the development stage, has set its sights on hosting a diverse selection of premier motorsports events in the near future. According to Abdullah Aldawood, Managing Director of Qiddiya Investment Company, the creation of this venue will “bring us one step closer to establishing Qiddiya City as a prominent hub for international motorsport.”
“According to the official, “The track will be prepared to hold internationally recognized racing competitions that will cater to diverse audiences. Located in Qiddiya City, with the impressive Tuwaiq Mountains in the background, it will be encompassed by thrilling activities, opportunities, and events, offering a complete and immersive experience that goes beyond just racing.”
“The integration of the speed park track into its surroundings and the city itself will be seamless,” stated the spokesperson. “Competitors will have the opportunity to take on turn one while passing over a vibrant music venue, before racing through Six Flag’s Falcon’s Flight. This exhilarating experience will be enhanced by the presence of retail, dining, and hospitality options, guaranteeing a one-of-a-kind visit where sports, entertainment, and culture converge.”
The layout of the track combines elements from both types of racing, featuring a street segment that twists through the city’s modern buildings and a separate section with long, straight stretches that pass by various sites for entertainment, hospitality, and leisure activities, such as a water park and theme park.
The track showcases “The Blade,” a high-velocity turn that will ascend and descend by an impressive 108 meters (equivalent to 20 stories).
According to Aldawood, the defining feature of the Speed Park Track is its versatility in hosting various motorsports events. He stated, “What truly sets the Speed Park Track apart is its ability to welcome a wide array of motorsports events.” The track boasts a unique design, with a towering ‘Blade’ structure overlooking a music venue and street sections that weave through cultural neighborhoods. This innovative layout will undoubtedly raise the bar for the industry, revolutionizing the world of motorsports for both participants and onlookers.
The spectators’ encounter will be quite distinct as well, since traditional stands will be replaced with raised terraces. The concept behind this decision? By elevating the viewing spaces, they can be situated in close proximity to the race track, providing numerous perspectives right at the brink of the racing excitement and bringing a fresh level of immersion to racing enthusiasts.
The trail takes full advantage of the 100m+ altitude changes, offering an array of diverse perspectives throughout its entirety.
According to Aldawood, the Qiddiya City track is more than just a venue. It represents the culmination of their efforts to establish Qiddiya City as a major player in the world of motorsport. Their vision for the track goes beyond the excitement of racing. Spectators will have the opportunity to witness a truly unique and elevated race experience, completely transforming the sport as we currently know it.
The creators have adhered to current fashions of merging racetracks with entertainment spaces – a concept that has received immense admiration in Miami and Las Vegas. However, in this case, the synchronization is greater than ever before. The entire city is currently undergoing major developments and the race circuit has been cleverly woven into highly populated urban areas designated for leisure activities right from its inception.
The “Blade” turn is poised to make a name for itself by literally ascending on top of a lively music venue. Another portion of the track offers drivers the perfect opportunity to put their top speed to the test against the world-renowned Falcon’s Flight, the tallest rollercoaster in the world located at the nearby Six Flags Qiddiya City venue.
According to Aldawood, our primary goal is to offer an unmatched immersive event for fans from all corners of the globe. With the implementation of cutting-edge technology, the track’s distinct adaptability guarantees a revolutionary motorsport encounter that cannot be found elsewhere. Attendees will have the opportunity to indulge in supplementary amenities on the premises, making their stay more than just a racing spectacle.
