Without doubt, the 2023 BMW M2 is extraordinary. Bearing a resemblance to true BMW M models, it not only appears like one but its performance attests to the same. Rumors have been going around that given the footage from IND Distribution, this vehicle may be equipping more power than it outwardly presents.

It’s not the first incident when it has been noted that BMW’s 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged engine produces more power than anticipated. Last October, a statement made announced that the M4 CSL’s engine had outputted a remarkable 595 horsepower, surprisingly being 53 hp higher than what BMW had officially declared.

The BMW M2 is now equipped with a modern twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six, which is identical to the one found in the M4. Making an impressive 453 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque, this marks an increase of 48 hp more than the prior M2 Competition variant and eight above the potent M2 CS.

IND Distribution’s dyno results demonstrate that BMW’s publicized energy capabilities are to some extent modest. Following several runs, the Zandvoort Blue M2 produced a highest power of 465 horsepower and a maximum torque of 412 pound-feet. The dissimilarity between the reported and dynamometer numbers is not as dramatic as was the case for M4 CSL, yet it is still sufficient to make one doubt whether BMW is deliberately understating its documented engine output.

The Motor1 team are absolutely smitten with the new M2. We recently tested it and declared that “If you like the M4, then you’ll love the new M2.” It may have a slightly different character than the original M2, yet it still packs a punch, being a smaller and more dynamic version of the M4 with many of the same features.

Starting at the steep price of $63,195, plus destination fee, the M2 does not come with a light pocketbook. It weighs in at a hefty 3,867 pounds – which is only 112 pounds less than the M4 and more than 200 pounds heavier than its predecessor, M2 Competition. This extra mass is largely due to BMW’s modular CLAR platform, this same setup that provides the frame for the M4 as well. But don’t worry; the heft pays off with stellar performance stats, like its 0-60 mph time of 3.9 seconds and the unmistakable roar of its M inline six engine.
