In recent times, there has been a surge in the popularity of satin finishes for car exteriors, and Ford is capitalizing on this trend with their 2024 Mustang. The company is introducing a new factory option that will give buyers the chance to have a satin finish on their Mustangs. Contrary to common belief, this option is not limited to a specific trim level or paint color, as it can be applied to any color available for the Mustang.

The Matte Clear Film option has been introduced by Ford. Acting as a form of paint protection film, it is currently offered for both the coupe and convertible Mustang models, with the latter being released at a later date. Made by PPG, this film can be applied on top of any original color choices from the factory, resulting in a sleek and velvety appearance that comes with a standard warranty from Ford. Furthermore, it should be noted that the Dark Horse version is also eligible for this option.

“When it comes to color options, the film is available in any shade,” states Ford. However, there are some restrictions to keep in mind. The California Special package cannot be paired with the film, and it is also not compatible with optional graphics packages for the GT or EcoBoost models. In terms of the Dark Horse edition, selecting the Matte Clear Film option means the hood accent stripe must be deleted, and painted racing stripes are not an option. In recent news, Ford has made it possible to delete graphics for the Dark Horse even without choosing the Matte Clear Film. This decision, according to Ford, gives the Dark Horse a “more low-key appearance.” However, the final verdict on this claim is up to you.

Purchasing the factory-supported glossy appearance does not come at a low cost. This added feature increases the price displayed on the sticker by $5,995. Although it is theoretically feasible to remove it afterwards, Ford strongly discourages this and recommends that only trained technicians handle such a task.

The latest offering, the Matte Clear Film alternative, is set to be available for purchase on February 27th. Deliveries are scheduled to commence in June for coupe models, while convertibles will not arrive at dealerships until the last quarter of 2024.
