New 4xe trim joins Europe’s exclusive hybrid lineup with front-wheel-drive counterparts.
The available engine options for the European market include electric, hybrid, and traditional combustion powertrains. However, there is one feature that is missing from the Jeep Avenger – its signature four-wheel drive capability. This will all change with the launch of the latest addition to the lineup: the Jeep Avenger 4xe.In Europe, potential buyers of the Jeep Avenger are presented with a variety of powertrain choices, ranging from electric and hybrid to traditional combustion engines. Despite these diverse options, one crucial aspect that is absent from this model is the renowned Jeep four-wheel drive functionality. Nevertheless, this disadvantage will soon be resolved as the highly anticipated Jeep Avenger 4xe is set to hit the market later this year.
While the Avenger may share the 4xe branding with other plug-in hybrid models, it sets itself apart by utilizing a 48-volt mild hybrid system. This unique setup combines a 134-horsepower internal combustion engine with two 28-horsepower electric motors. The first motor is seamlessly integrated into a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, while the second motor works in tandem with Jeep’s innovative “power looping” technology. This allows all four wheels to receive power, regardless of the battery’s level of charge. Additionally, the Avenger 4xe has the capability to operate solely on electric power at lower speeds, although no specific range has been disclosed.
Limited information is available about the Avenger 4xe at the moment, however, designs unveiled by the company showcase a beefed-up variant of the SUV featuring a revamped front grille that bears a striking resemblance to the Avenger 4×4 Concept displayed at the Paris Motor Show in 2022. A noticeable roof rack can be seen on top, but apart from the provided front image, no further details have been revealed yet.
According to Eric Laforge, the head of Jeep in Europe, the new Jeep Avenger 4xe marks a significant milestone for the brand. Laforge stated, “The latest iteration of our popular model combines the compactness and adaptability of the Avenger with the impressive capabilities of an all-wheel drive system.” This combination results in an unparalleled level of performance, providing drivers with a more dynamic and thrilling driving experience. With the introduction of the Avenger 4xe, Jeep’s lineup of 4×4 SUVs is now complete, covering all segments in the market.
At this time, there is no signal that the Avenger, in any variation, will be available for purchase in North America. However, Jeep has announced that orders for the 4xe will be accepted in Europe before the end of 2024. Therefore, it is advisable to stay updated for further updates.
