New release scheduled for January 2025.
Kia has unveiled its financial performance for the initial quarter of 2024, packed with typical sales and financial terminology. Alongside this announcement, the company has made available a video recording of the CEO’s presentation during the Investor Day event held earlier this month. Interestingly, within the speech, some exciting information about future products was revealed.
The EV9 GT is set to be unveiled in January 2025 with a “enormous power” coming from an enhanced dual-motor configuration. Kia has stated that it will accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in under four seconds, a remarkable feat considering the hefty weight of the large SUV, which is close to 6,000 pounds. There are high expectations for a significant increase in power compared to the current most potent version available, which delivers 379 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. This added power will enable the GT version to reduce the sprint time by more than one second.
If Kia doesn’t intend to enhance the battery chemistry, it’s likely that the range will be negatively affected. This is typically the outcome when an electric vehicle receives performance upgrades that come at the cost of efficiency. Currently, the EV9 GT-Line achieves a range of 270 miles on a single charge according to EPA ratings. Kia has announced that the upcoming full-fledged GT model will feature a more robust suspension system and improved brakes.
This isn’t the sole electric Kia SUV gearing up to introduce a GT edition. While not highlighted during the CEO Investor Day, the EV5 GT (shown below) has already been glimpsed in China. It has recently received approval from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, with photos appearing on MIIT’s website.
Later in the presentation, a product roadmap was shown in the backdrop. A revised EV6 is set to be released in the second quarter of this year. The sporty EV6 GT will then arrive in early Q4. Additionally, Kia intends to make some adjustments to the well-liked Sportage in the last quarter of the year. In other news, the inaugural EV3 and fresh K4 models are on the horizon for Q3, while the sizeable K8 sedan, which is not currently available in the United States, will undergo a mid-cycle facelift.
Before that, a five-door hatchback model of the K3 compact sedan, which is also not available in America, will be released shortly.
