Cruise in the Exclusive German Sports Coupe
Sport Auto magazine of Germany has an ongoing tradition of conducting the Supertest, which includes taking the BMW M4 CSL for a spin round the renowned Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit. The time for this undertaking has arrived.
Christian Gebhardt, racecar driver at Sports Auto, blazed through the ‘Ring in an astonishing 7 minutes and 17.08 seconds with the M4 CSL. An equivalent time to that of Jörg Weidinger’s earlier run in the coupe: 7:15.677 around the 12.8-mile (20.6-kilometer) course in 2022. This was a record time for any street-legal BMW running the circuit.
The greatly acclaimed M4 CSL type is outfitted with an exceedingly powerful twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six engine providing an incredible 543 brake horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission transmits the power to the rear wheels. According to official figures, this sports coupe can accelerate 0 – 60 mph in only 3.6 seconds and reach 120mph in 10.5 seconds. Furthermore, the maximum electronically restricted speed stands at a remarkable 191mph.
The M4 CSL features powerful performance, benefiting from a significant weight discount, eliminating 240 pounds. High-strength carbon fiber reinforced plastic materials are used for the hood, rooftop, boot lid and interior segments, while the brakes are constructed from sophisticated carbon ceramic components. The cabin does not include rear seats.
The suspension of the M4 CSL is 0.3 inches lower than that of the M4 Competition, while revisions to the anti-roll bars, wheel camber settings and dampers have also been incorporated. Furthermore, a strut brace links the towers situated beneath the bonnet, whilst the engine and transmission mounts are stiffer than their stock counterparts.
BMW has announced intends to produce one thousand copies of the M4 CSL internationally. Within the U.S., the cost will begin at $140,895 with an additional $995 for delivery charges.
Following the release of the M4 CSL, BMW presented the even hotter 3.0 CSL. It is unknown how quick it can navigate around the Nordschleife track. Offering 553 hp and 404 lb-ft, this model houses a six-gear manual transmission. It also features an eye-catching wing and expansive rear fins. Unfortunately there’s only being 50 of them produced.
