Affordable $125K for Rocket-Free Launch
The 2024 Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV is the ultimate in zero-emission ground transportation, and now the German car company is intending to launch its one-of-a-kind brand of luxury into the stratosphere with a novel collaborative endeavor. Mercedes-Benz will join up with Space Perspective to supply electric Maybach cars that will shuttle Explorer passengers from the land to their spaceflight missions.
Unlike some other private companies that offer rides into space, the Space Perspective Spaceship Neptune does not burn any fuel, making it completely carbon-neutral. Instead of using rockets, the balloon slowly brings occupants to 100,000 feet in a pressurized capsule with meal and cocktail service. There’s no violent take off, just a gentle lift. It’s worth noting that the atmosphere technically ends at 62 miles (327,000 feet) above the surface, so the qualification of “space” is a bit iffy here.
“Our partnership with Space Perspective is the ideal fit for us,” said Daniel Lescow, Head of Mercedes-Maybach. “It will enable us to provide sustainable, carbon-neutral travel from Space Perspective’s facilities to the launch site on Florida’s Space Coast, while allowing space explorers to experience the highest level of Maybach refinement on the ground.”
“By uniting our all-electric Spaceship Neptune with the all-electric Mercedes-Maybach, we are paving the way for a sustainable and inspirational future,” said Jane Poynter, Founder and Co-CEO of Space Perspective. “It will also provide our Explorers with an elevated experience when they board our spacecraft.”
Apart from the electrification they share, the opulent Maybach EQS SUV and Space Perspective’s Neptune Spaceship offer phenomenal comfort. The vessel flaunts the grandest windows ever launched into space, providing ‘travelers’ in the six luxurious loungers with an extraordinary vista of the globe beneath them. On-board facilities include a top-notch beverage and meal service, Wi-Fi, and lavatory. While Space Perspective has masterminded the cabin, Mercedes-Maybach will sway the design later in the alliance.
Flights will start near the conclusion of 2024 for the 1,650 travelers who are Exporters. With a limit of 6 people per flight, each place is estimated at $125,000, which is roughly as pricey as an extravagantly furnished EQS SUV.
