Enhancements to Toyota’s CPO Program: Lower Tier Now Available!

Toyota has recently broadened its Certified Pre-Owned initiative to encompass older vehicles with greater mileage than those that were previously included. The company aims to provide customers with a wider range of options and a more comprehensive program. This expansion means that Toyota will now include automobiles that may have been overlooked before due to their age or mileage.Under this program, Toyota offers warranty coverage for up to 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first. This gives customers peace of mind when purchasing a pre-owned vehicle from the company. In addition, all certified vehicles undergo a rigorous inspection process by trained technicians to ensure they meet Toyota’s strict standards for quality and reliability. Any necessary repairs are also taken care of before the vehicle is made available for sale. This move by Toyota shows its commitment to providing high-quality pre-owned vehicles to its customers. It recognizes the value in offering a diverse selection of cars that cater to different needs and budgets. The certified pre-owned program also includes perks such as roadside assistance and a complimentary subscription to the Toyota Owner app, which provides access to vehicle information and maintenance reminders.By expanding its Certified Pre-Owned program, Toyota is not only meeting customer demands but also setting itself apart as a leading brand in the automotive industry. Toyota has recently introduced a new level of Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) status known as Silver Certified. This addition specifically applies to Toyota vehicles that are no more than ten years old and have a mileage range of 60,000-125,000. The previous tier, Gold Certified, remains in place and includes vehicles up to six years old with a mileage below 85,000 miles.

Surprisingly, there exists a significant difference of 25,000 miles between the two levels of certified pre-owned (CPO) vehicles. As stated on the Toyota Certified Used Vehicles website, the Silver Certified tier applies only to cars that do not meet the requirements for Gold Certified, implying that a 2021 Corolla Sedan with more than 70,000 miles should qualify for Gold Certification even if it is initially eligible for Silver.

Upon reviewing Toyota’s available vehicles, we found that the aforementioned scenario does not apply. The specific car we mentioned is currently marked as Silver Certified in California (as shown in the screenshot below). This indicates that it has gone through a rigorous inspection and meets all necessary criteria for certification.

During our conversation with Nathan Kokes, Senior Manager of Toyota Product Communications, we inquired about the reason behind certain cars being deemed worthy of Gold status but not receiving it. In response, Kokes explained that “dealers have some leeway in their assessment of a vehicle for Gold or Silver certification, as long as it meets the criteria of having 60-85k miles and being under six years old.” He went on to clarify that the main factor leading to a Silver certification is typically “excessive wear and tear, primarily in terms of cosmetic damage.”

Gold Certified Toyota vehicles offer superior coverage compared to Silver Certified ones. While the latter includes a limited powertrain warranty and 24/7 roadside assistance for 12 months or 12,000 miles, the former boasts these benefits for a span of seven years and up to 100,000 miles. The higher Gold level also grants an added comprehensive warranty for one year or up to 12,000 miles (whichever occurs first).

The Gold Certified Toyota hybrid vehicles will now come with an additional eight-year, 100,000-mile battery warranty.

Toyota’s Gold Certified used cars undergo a thorough examination of 160 aspects (174 for hybrids), surpassing the 136-point assessment for Silver. Furthermore, the greater CPO level also qualifies for standard new-car financing rates, resulting in higher interest rates for Silver-tier CPO cars.

Toyota has recently enhanced their Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) program, making it easier for people in the market for a used car to find affordable options. This program also offers warranties that are comparable to those offered for brand-new cars fresh off the factory line. With the rising costs of new vehicles and many Americans struggling with lower wages, this improvement is certainly a much-needed addition. The upgraded CPO program from Toyota provides a cost-effective option for consumers looking to purchase a reliable vehicle without breaking the bank. This is especially beneficial given the exorbitant prices of new cars in the US. Additionally, this is a timely solution as many individuals are finding it difficult to secure higher paying incomes to support the purchase of a new car.In essence, Toyota’s updated CPO program ensures that customers can still benefit from warranties typically offered for new cars, even when buying pre-owned vehicles. This is a game-changer for those on a budget, as it allows them to have peace of mind knowing they have some protection against potential future issues. As the global economy continues to be uncertain, more and more people are turning to the used car market. However, there is often concern and hesitation due to the lack of warranties and guarantees. Toyota’s revamped CPO program addresses this issue by
