On March 7, Rivian is set to unveil their highly anticipated R2, which has been dubbed as their first “affordable” SUV. As we previously caught a glimpse of the vehicle’s front-end in a teaser video released last week, the company is now giving us an even closer look at the electric SUV before its official launch.

A recent picture shared on X offers a sneak peek at the windshield, roof rack, and rear end of the Rivian R2. The R2 appears to be a smaller adaptation of the larger R1S from almost every perspective.

New teasers shared on Instagram give us a complete look at the rear of the R2. The enigmatic videos and picture reveal a wide light bar that spans the entire rear, just like the R1S, with the Rivian logo prominently displayed across the trunk lid. An intriguing feature not seen on the R1S is the distinct upward-slanting component.

Rivian has been fairly secretive regarding their upcoming electric vehicle, revealing only limited information thus far. However, it has been confirmed that it will be smaller in size compared to their R1S model and will be more budget-friendly. According to company CEO RJ Scaringe, the estimated cost of this EV is anticipated to fall somewhere between $45,000 to $50,000. While this places it above its key competitors such as the Tesla Model Y, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Kia EV6, and Hyundai Ioniq 5, the starting price of the vehicle is yet to be disclosed.

The R2 remains faithful to Rivian’s iconic lighting design, with the inclusion of the brand’s signature full-width light bar at the front and its distinctive Stadium-shaped headlights, making it easily recognizable on the road. Although the teaser only reveals the R2’s front portion, one can only speculate about the rear taillights, but based on the R1S and R1T models, a simplistic full-width feature will likely be present.

Scaringe stated that the upcoming R2 will serve as Rivian’s “equivalent of the Model 3,” with potential obstacles in scaling up production to keep up with the high demand for their more budget-friendly option. The company has allocated a significant amount of $5 billion towards constructing a new factory in Georgia to prepare for this endeavor.

Specifics on the powertrain, performance, and driving range are currently unknown. However, it is expected that there will be continued promotion of the SUV in the days leading up to its official unveiling at the beginning of next month. Stay alert for updates.
