Wrangler 4xe expected to feature powerful 375-horsepower engine.
Jeep announced on Friday that they plan to launch the Gladiator 4xe plug-in hybrid sometime in the upcoming year. This new model will expand Jeep’s range of EVs, which includes the Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe, at a time when electric vehicle sales are starting to slow down. CEO Antonio Filosa shared this news in a LinkedIn post, mentioning only the expected arrival date without providing further details. It is anticipated that the Gladiator will utilize a similar PHEV powertrain as the Wrangler.
The SUV is equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, a starter generator, and an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed automatic transmission. The combined power of the system reaches 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque.
The introduction of the 4xe follows Jeep’s choice to discontinue the EcoDiesel engine alternative for the Gladiator. The fresh plug-in hybrid will be added to the 3.6-liter V-6 model which produces 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, establishing the hybrid as the most powerful option.
Jeep has not provided a definite release date for the Gladiator 4xe. Instead, they reiterated their previous commitment to electrify all their models by 2025. More precise information will need to be awaited.
The price of the truck remains unknown. The 2024 Wrangler 4xe has a starting price of $52,554 (including the $1,895 destination charge), which is approximately $20,000 higher than the basic gasoline model. If a comparable increase is applied to the base Gladiator, the hybrid version of the truck could be priced at slightly below $60,000.
