30 Years of Award Celebrations
After a long period of inquiry, culminating in 3 rounds of elections, the 2024 North American Vehicle of the Year awardees were ultimately divulged during a press conference, co-sponsored by the Detroit Auto Dealers Association (DADA) and the Automotive Press Association (APA), held at the M1 Concourse in Pontiac.
The Toyota Prius and Prius Prime duo accomplished a feat that was coveted, clinching the North American Car of the Year title. Meanwhile, the Ford Super Duty procured the prized North American Truck of the Year honour. And, completing the trio of victors in their categories, the Kia EV9 secured the North American Utility Vehicle of the Year award.
Our esteemed champions represent the reality that modern automobiles must encompass appearance, practicality and modern technology,” remarked NACTOY President Jeff Gilbert. “I congratulate our fifty judges for arriving at some outstanding decisions.”
This year marks the 30th anniversary of NACTOY, and in July they kicked off the awards process with a list of 52 eligible vehicles. By the time September rolled around, the selection had been narrowed down to 25 vehicles, which were named “The Best of 2024” at the Detroit Auto Show. Finally, the 9 outstanding finalists were announced at the Los Angeles Auto Show, completing the process.
Last year saw the Acura Integra come out on top in the automobile division, while the Ford F-150 Lightning was hailed as Best Truck. It was Kia that took home the trophy for Best SUV with their EV6 model. On the other hand, in 2022, Ford swept all categories, with the Bronco being hailed as Best SUV, the Maverick winning the title of Best Truck, and the Honda Civic crowning the Car of the Year champion.
