Spy Shots Show Sportback Variant’s Curves

Who knew that Audi has been selling a Q6 for over a year? You may not have recognized it as it is only accessible in China with its combustion engines. But come 2024, the Four Ring maker will be offering this variant of their Q6 E-Tron to the world market. Sources claim that under the PPE platform, jointly created by Porsche and Audi, this particular electric vehicle was spotted without any concealment other than protective wraps around its body.

Sharp-eyed readers will observe two prototypes are being handled. The first is the normal, Q6 E-Tron form and the other is the coupe-style Q6 E-Tron Sportback with its roof slant. These models have been fully developed to the point of any exterior design being nearly complete. As part of Porsche’s partnership with Audi, a new, all-electric Macan model is scheduled to be launched for 2024.

The styling of the E-Tron is what one would expect from the upmarket manufacturer of Ingolstadt; taking no chances in design. It’s undeniable that many have commented on the similarity of the larger Q6 E-Tron to the Q4 E-Tron. Audi seems to be embracing a more cautious approach instead of being more adventurous with the looks of its two new EVs. This isn’t to say that the electric SUVs are plain, however, having something different to offer might have been better. That said, some may find the proportions of the Q6 E-Tron to be an improvement over its smaller sibling. Ultimately, it is all down to personal preference.

Although vehicle photographers have not been able to get an up-close look, Audi has made public their cabins for the Q6 E-Tron models. As one would anticipate for a forthcoming EV in 2024, they boast a control center loaded with monitors: an 11.9-inch OLED display directed towards the chauffeur, a 14.5-inch system of infotainment, plus a 10.9-inch screen situated for the front passenger. Unsurprisingly, these two EVs are roomier than the smaller Q4 E-Tron range, which is designed on the less advanced MEB architecture.

When piloting the prototype last July, Audi informed us that there would be Q6 and SQ6 models featuring a twin motor setup and 100 kWh battery pack. The general version is expected to have about 375 hp whereas the more powerful one will provide 483 hp with a short-term improvement up to 510 hp. It is likely that the SQ6 won’t take longer than four and a half seconds to accelerate from a standstill to 60 mph.

Audi indicated that the new Q6 range will be similar in size to the gas-engine Q5, however it will have less overhang and a wider wheelbase. This is achievable as Audi has managed to achieve a better resistance through an individual electric platform. Adaptive air suspension has been confirmed for this model, joined by 800-volt electrics hardware and regenerative brakes. Furthermore, the EVs are intended to support 270 kW of high charging power, giving owners the opportunity to top up their batteries in around 30 minutes between 10-80% charges.

Arriving in the coming year, the Audi Q6 and SQ6 will confront daunting competition straightaway from the likes of the Mercedes EQE SUV and the AMG EQE SUV. In addition, the Tesla Model Y, Polestar 3, and Maserati Grecale Folgore must be mentioned.
