Cadillac Plans to Continue Selling Gas-Powered Vehicles Beyond 2030

Company reevaluates goal to achieve full electrification by 2030.

In the beginning of the decade, Cadillac’s executives had charted a path for the brand to transition to being fully electric by 2030. However, the landscape has evolved, and it seems that stance is now becoming more flexible. Addressing the media on Wednesday, Cadillac’s Global Vice President John Roth mentioned that electric vehicles and traditional combustion engine cars “will coexist for a number of years,” without specifying a definitive timeline.

“The auto industry does not follow a straight line and there are no absolutes,” said Roth, according to a report from the Detroit Free Press. He mentioned that the company aims for consumers to have “the luxury of choice” and that Cadillac is adapting based on customer feedback. Nevertheless, Roth emphasized that a complete range of electric models is still planned for 2030.

We reached out to Cadillac for more information on the matter. A representative provided the following statement:

Cadillac is not the initial brand to reconsider an electrified future. Stellantis has recently stated its openness to developing combustion versions of EVs if consumer demand warrants it. Sales of electric vehicles have slowed down in recent months for many brands, resulting in production reductions by several companies and raising questions about the speed of the anticipated electric transition.

Currently, the Lyriq stands as Cadillac’s sole available electric vehicle option, presenting a viable crossover for luxury buyers at a reasonable starting price of $58,590. The anticipated arrival of the Escalade IQ later this year is expected to cater to a more upscale market segment, with initial prices hovering around $130,000. Additionally, Cadillac has in its lineup the flagship Celestiq priced at $340,000, positioning it as a limited-production halo car competing with the top-tier offerings from Rolls-Royce and Bentley. Future models like the Optiq and Vistiq are still in the pipeline for upcoming release.

One more thing to mention is that the majority of digital cameras come equipped with a new zoom lens that enables more or less of that scene to get included by way of ‘zooming’ in and out. These changes in focusing length will be reflected inside the viewfinder and on big display screen right at the back of the camera.
