Colorado Outpowers Toyota: 310 HP Turbo Four-Cylinder.
In May, Toyota brought out the brand new Tacoma that comes with a range of revitalizing updates to its design, tech specs and engines. The V6 was gotten rid of in favour of the four-cylinder and a video has recently been released comparing it to the modernized Chevrolet Colorado in a drag race to reveal which is the faster vehicle.
Tacoma is equipped with their newest four-cylinder turbocharged 2.4-liter powertrain. Although it has lesser power than the Colorado Trail Boss, it still makes 278 bhp and 317 lb-ft of torque, opposed to the Chevy’s 310 bhp and 430 lb-ft when given its max output tweak.
The unbridled power of the Colorado’s turbocharged four-cylinder engine was spectacularly on full display during the drag race, and the Chevy emphatically bested Toyota’s brand-new pickup truck. Nevertheless, the Badgeless’ dominance atop the podium may be fleeting, as soon the Tacoma could be outfitted with a Hybrid design producing beyond the performance of the Colorado’s superior engine tuneup. Toyota’s I-Force Max powertrain musters an impressive aggregate of 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque from a turbo 2.4-liter engine in tandem with an electric motor, and we keenly anticipate an encore.
Toyota here provides the 2.4-liter, four-banger motor with a less vigorous update, generating 228 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque. This is more analogous to the introductory-level Colorado, which generates 237 hp and 259 lb-ft of turning force. The third-gen debuted in 2023 from Chevrolet, though that incarnation saw its middle level motor discarded for the 2024 model year.
Soon, Toyota and Chevy will have to prepare for a powerful adversary – the upcoming Ford Ranger Raptor of 2024. Ford is taking the much-anticipated mid-size SUV across the pond and into America’s yards in 2021. Featuring an potent EcoBoost V6 that dishes out 405 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque from its 3.0-liter powerplant, it trumps Toyota and Chevrolet engines. Expect more Tacoma drag races in the not-too-distant future.
