Will Musk’s Uncertainty Affect Its Styling Success?
We all have opinions on whether the Tesla Cybertruck looks good, but the opinions that truly count are those of actual designers, and few are more renowned than Giorgetto Giugiaro. He stated in an interview with NPR, “[distinguished design is] a market necessity, and the Cybertruck will surely be successful, I’m sure of it.” It’s clear that Giugiaro has faith in the success of the Cybertruck, and his words carry a great deal of weight in the design world.
Giugiaro is an acknowledged expert in car design and his artwork has turned into legendary. One of his main glorys was the crediting of the iconic DeLorean DMC-12, the BMW M1 and the influential Hyundai Pony that triggered the successful Ioniq 5. Caution should be taken, however, as this master craftsman never reveals all.
The Tesla Cybertruck has garnered both passionate love and vehement hatred for its wedge-shaped exterior. It looks nothing like any other truck on the market, including the Ford F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1T, which renowned designer Giorgetto Giugiaro believes to be a major plus. However, even Tesla CEO Elon Musk has expressed some hesitance towards the design, describing it as “unchartered territory.” Just like the DMC DeLorean, the Tesla Cybertruck is a divisive vehicle.
Giorgetto Giugiaro has gone on record to illustrate his position that people are captivated by the singularity.
“Stepping outside the norms is often seen as a kind of provocation,” Guigiaro remarked to NPR. “This is true across many areas, from furniture design to cooking, and so on. Everyone wants to stand out; it’s a requirement of the market, and I’m confident the Cybertruck will be a success. It will find its fans, without a doubt.”
“I’m not here to pass judgement on the aesthetics of the Cybertruck – it has its fans who want a car that makes a statement,” said Guigiaro. He’s not necessarily endorsing the design, but he does recognize that its unique styling could appeal to a wide range of buyers.
Both the DMC DeLorean and the Tesla Cybertruck boast stainless steel exteriors among their features. Unfortunately, the DeLorean was renowned for its inadequacies in several departments while, as of yet, the Cybertruck has failed to impress with its prototypes and release models when it comes to the visible panel spaces and general construction mark. Additionally, it appears to be sub-par off-road, leaving CEO Elon Musk rather uncertain about the potential scalability of production.
The initial shipment of Tesla’s Cybertruck is predicted to occur on November 30th, four years subsequent to its unveiling. Optimistically, we will soon find out if Tesla managed to sort out any difficulties with their electric truck. Meanwhile, by Giugiaro’s standard, he doesn’t think it will amount to the great collapse that many assume it will be.
