The 2016 iteration of the iconic Mustang, known to many as the GT S550, was released with an impressive 435 horsepower and 400 lb-ft when it was initially produced. However, this particular car has features something better, boasting enhanced mufflers, a header, motor tune, and upgraded clutch. The upgrades, although moderately priced, provide a much more powerful performance comparable to a newer, 2024 model ― which incidentally bears a power rating of 486 hp and 416 pound-feet of torque.

The last edition of the S550 didn’t fare so well in its initial competition, falling short of the newer GT. Nonetheless, its next attempt yielded better results, finishing the quarter-mile in 12.3 seconds and accelerating from 0 to 60 in just 4.2 seconds. Conversely, the 2024 GT arrived to the finish line at 12.5 seconds and took 4.3 seconds to hit 60.

In 2016, the Mustang achieved a historic victory during a rolling race beginning at 32 miles-per-hour, then nearly matched it by clinching the next competition which launched at 42 mph. With a slim edge of just one bumper, the new GT managed to cross the finish line in first place.

For over a decade now, the Ford Mustang has been on course to deliver 500 horsepower with its 5.0-liter V8. The current GT delivers as much as 486 hp, while the Dark Horse variant actually reaches this towering figure. What makes this automobile unique is that it can be so effortlessly modified; you just need a few tweaks for an older generation Mustang to become a powerful contender.
