If these speculations regarding the Kia Seltos turn out to be accurate, it is likely that a completely new version of the vehicle will be introduced, rather than just an updated version, as high-ranking Kia officials have already dismissed the idea of a hybrid Seltos using the existing platform. One potential option could be to incorporate the 1.6-liter hybrid inline-four engine from the newest Hyundai Kona. However, this particular powertrain is currently not available in the US market.

Recently, there has been news that JLR is shifting its focus from electric vehicles to hybrids. This decision was made due to a decrease in the demand for electric cars, while there is a high demand for hybrids. Another company, GM, is also following suit with a similar strategy. It is evident that the majority of consumers desire a combination of both electric and traditional combustion engines in their vehicles.

It is yet to be determined if the report is precise and, in the case that it is, what the powertrain may consist of. However, the most probable viable choice would be for the electrified Seltos to enter the market as a slightly modified version of the Hyundai Kona Hybrid available in Europe. This model utilizes a 1.6-liter GDi gasoline engine and a solitary electric motor to generate 139 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. Admittedly, the acceleration is sluggish (taking over 11 seconds to reach 62 mph), but perhaps some adjustments could be implemented before installing the system in the Seltos.
