Electric SUVs Avoid Ordinance Imposed Limits
In France, particularly in its capital, Paris, the government is planning to punish SUV owners by imposing a higher parking fee because it thinks these vehicles “are absolutely useless” for the inner city. This news item, originating from The Guardian, asserts that the regulation is likely to take effect in early 2024. With merely five months looming before it could become a reality, however, the vehicle parking requirement has yet to make clear the precise SUV features on which it will be based.
Discussing the size, weight, and engine of an SUV, families who require the expansive characteristics of such a vehicle may be exempted from any laws set in place. Additionally, electric-fueled versions of these cars might be able to bypass the expensive parking charges.
The cost of the increased parking fee for SUVs has not been set yet; however, the report indicates a progressive system may be implemented. As an example, if one were to park a bulky Cadillac Escalade in the City of Light, it could potentially become more expensive than parking a compact Honda CR-V.

As Belliard puts it, ‘there are no dirt paths, no mountain roads.’ This sentiment is reflected in the city’s decision to impose a ban on larger SUVs from certain areas of the city.”
We are not astounded by this information about the City of Lights. After all, Paris is renowned for having some of the most rigid vehicular restrictions anywhere globally, including its notoriously inactive 19 mph speed ceiling.
