Some may deem it foolish, while others may proclaim it as awesome. Yet, there is a unanimous consensus that it’s a sleeper car. After all, a 5.0-liter V-8 engine is not exactly a common feature for a 1996 Geo Tracker. However, to everyone’s surprise, here stands a little Tracker with a genuine V-8 designation on its grille. It’s definitely not a counterfeit.

This 28-year-old Tracker is up for sale at Steel City Classics in Alabama. To be frank, it would have grabbed our attention even without the impressive engine replacement. It’s not often that you come across a well-maintained Tracker, and while they weren’t widely popular when first released, these compact convertibles have gained a devoted following in recent years.

Typically, you would come across a modest 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine under the hood, generating around 95-100 horsepower on a good day. However, this particular car is far from ordinary, as can be seen by its immaculate engine bay housing a powerful 5.0 V8 engine. This is a classic Ford pushrod V8, and although the selling dealer does not mention its exact power output, we can safely assume it delivers well over 300 horsepower. The seller has also mentioned a B303 cam and MSD ignition, and considering the engine has been slightly bored, this car must be an absolute blast to drive. With power going exclusively to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission, it makes for an even more exhilarating experience behind the wheel.

According to the sales description, this Tracker has undergone a complete frame-off restoration. Based on the photographs, it appears to be in excellent condition overall. The top fits securely, the interior is spotless, and the body maintains its original charm. It could easily be mistaken for an unassuming vehicle, though the presence of dual exhausts and a parachute at the back may hint at some high-performance modifications.
