Five Brands Introduce Eight New Models: Get Ready to Be Impressed!
After the introduction of the STLA Medium in July 2023, Stellantis has now announced the STLA Large platform as the second of its four global BEV platforms for their upcoming vehicles. This unified structure will serve as the foundation for a diverse range of large models in the D and E segments, with plans to release eight models by 2026.
As part of the Stellantis family, Dodge and Jeep will be among the initial beneficiaries of the STLA Large. The much-awaited electric version of the Dodge Charger, which has previously been seen undergoing road trials, is set to be one of the first vehicles produced on this platform. Alongside it, the Jeep Wagoneer S EV will also make use of the STLA Large. Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, and Maserati are three additional brands slated to utilize this cutting-edge platform.
Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares stated, “Our goals for our STLA platforms are ambitious, but this is exactly what our customers require from us at present.”
The STLA Large is a versatile platform that provides support for a range of different body types, such as cars and 4×4 off-road SUVs. Its overall length varies from 187.6 to 201.8 inches, while its overall width can range from 74.7 to 79.9 inches. The wheelbase also has a range between 113.0 and 121.1 inches, and the ground clearance ranges from 5.5 to 11.3 inches. Additionally, it can accommodate tires with a maximum diameter of 32.6 inches.
In this way, models utilizing the platform have the capability to accommodate a variety of suspension modules and interior designs, while also offering versatile drivetrain options such as front-wheel drive (FWD), rear-wheel drive (RWD), and all-wheel drive (AWD).
When it comes to the electric power capabilities of STLA Large-based vehicles, there are options for both a 400-volt or 800-volt EV structure, along with battery sizes ranging from 85 to 118 kWh. This platform boasts a charging efficiency of 4.5 kWh per minute, an impressive acceleration time of under 2 seconds from 0-62 mph, and a maximum range of 500 miles. Moreover, the adaptability of this platform also allows for the integration of hybrid and internal combustion engine powertrains, leading to speculation of a potential ICE version of the upcoming Charger.
In regards to this matter, Stellantis asserts that the fresh framework possesses the capability to surpass all current Hellcat V8s. Additionally, the design process takes into account efficiency, as various elements such as the cabin’s heating and cooling system, steering, braking assist, and propulsion are enhanced in order to reduce energy usage.
Moreover, the system accommodates the company’s upcoming innovative electric and software-based automotive advancements such as STLA Brain, STLA SmartCockpit, and STLA AutoDrive.
“Developing a range of vehicles using a meticulously designed set of components that offers adaptability to cater to various vehicle types and propulsion systems, surpassing the capabilities of our existing products, will effectively cater to the needs of our loyal customers across all our renowned brands. The defining feature of this platform is its versatility and nimbleness, which will play a crucial role in our triumph in the transition towards electrification in the North American market.”
Stellantis, a global automotive company, has launched an extensive electrification program supported by a massive investment of €50 billion (equivalent to $55 million in current exchange rates). In the United States, the goal is to achieve a 50% sales mix of battery-electric passenger cars and light-duty trucks by the year 2030. To reach this target, the company plans to secure approximately 400 gigawatt-hours of battery capacity, with the help of six battery production facilities located in North America and Europe.
