Go-Pro Footage: Tire with Balance Beads Demonstrates Smooth Driving Experience
It’s not every day that we get a glimpse into the intricate workings of a tire. This is why the video from Warped Perception’s YouTube channel caught our attention. By attaching a GoPro to a wheel placed inside a tire, we are given the opportunity to witness firsthand what transpires when a car travels down the road. What makes it even more fascinating is the use of balance beads, providing us with valuable insight into the functionality of the tire.Watching the insides of a tire in motion is an uncommon occurrence. To add to the surreal experience, small balance beads are inserted. These minuscule plastic or glass balls are poured into the tire after it is mounted on the rim, with the purpose of balancing the wheel as it rotates. Online discussions about the science behind these balance beads are plentiful, ranging from support to skepticism regarding their effectiveness.
Apart from the beads, our focus lies on observing how a tire performs while navigating rough roads in Chicago. Previously, we have witnessed footage from this particular YouTuber showcasing the inside of a tire, but the absence of beads made it difficult to fully comprehend the centrifugal forces at work. However, with the addition of the free-flowing beads, we are able to gain a better understanding of these forces and it is strangely soothing to watch them dance around at slower speeds.
It is significant to mention that the tire balancer highlighted in the previous footage revealed an unevenness of 2 ounces during its initial rotation and a 1.5-ounce discrepancy during the second, with the added beads. While this may not be a flawless equilibrium, considering the presence of a GoPro attached to the wheel, it is still fairly decent.
When all factors are taken into account, our first instinct would be to simply attach a few ounces to the back of the rim and call it a day. However, it can be enjoyable to explore the unique alternatives available. After all, isn’t diversity what makes life interesting?
