And to add to Toyota’s troubles, there are also complications arising from certain diesel engines under its subsidiary, Daihatsu.

In response to Toyota’s request, a team of independent experts conducted an investigation and discovered anomalies in the horsepower testing process of three diesel engines: 1GD, 2GD, and F33A. These particular engines are utilized in several Toyota vehicles such as the Hilux pickup, Fortuner SUV, Innova minivan, Land Cruiser (LC300), and the more luxurious Lexus LX in the 500d configuration.

The culprit responsible for the issue at hand is none other than the electronic control unit (ECU), which was operating on different software during testing than the ones installed in customer cars. A total of ten models have been affected, out of which six are currently sold within Japan. Toyota has reassured its customers that it is still safe to utilize these vehicles if they have already made a purchase. However, the automaker has decided to temporarily suspend the sale of cars equipped with these diesel engines manufactured by the Toyota Industries Corporation (TICO). Furthermore, Toyota is currently not accepting any new shipments of these engines until further notice.
