1,300-HP RTR Mustangs: Vaughn Gittin Jr.’sFormula Drift Feat

Formula Drift Team: Gittin Jr., DeNofa, LZ, Deane

The S650 Ford Mustang has been set to compete in a multitude of motorsport arenas spanning the entire globe, including NASCAR – as well as Le Mans. Now, it is entering the realm of Formula Drift, manned by Vaughn Gittin Jr. behind the wheel of the specially-developed 1,300-horsepower version. The professional drifter has already displayed his proficiency at causing the Mustang to drift even in EcoBoost form, yet he and his squad necessitate a bit more power to contend with other top drivers. Despite the efforts of Ford to maintain the requisite details on the particular modifications made to the S650 a mystery, they have revealed that the Spec-5 FD cars – three of which were created – generate 1,300 hp.

There has been an impressive amount of fat reduction, resulting in new suspension components that have been created to help provide the ultimate control.

“The all-new Mustang has some serious style, technology, and performance, and we used that as the foundation for our new Mustang RTRs for Formula Drift,” said Gittin Jr. “We’ve outdone ourselves this time – these Mustang RTRs are the best-looking and best-performing we’ve ever built, and they’re an absolute blast to drive!”

Gittin Jr. is planning his debut with the support of Chelsea DeNofa, Adam LZ, and Formula Drift’s three-time champion James Deane. Doubtlessly, all racers will be sporting divergent decorations; Gittin Jr.’s notable motif has been derived from visuals obtained from the James Webb Space Telescope.

Ford took advantage of the return of Vaughn Gittin Jr. to the racing arena after a year out by having the debut of the FD Mustangs. Furthermore, they utilized this opportunity to promote their new electronically controlled brakes that can be found as part of the optional Performance Package on both manual and automatic S650 Mustang models, regardless whether it is powered by the V8 engine or four-cylinders. Unfortunately, such package would not grant one the 1,300 horsepower capacitance that the pros have but these new ‘Stang should still be relatively effortless to skid around.

Rather than taking in all the action from afar, why not investigate it up close? The Long Beach branch of the Formula Drift series is on from April 7-8, followed-up by six additional gatherings concluding at the ultimate round in Irwindale on October 13-14.
