2024 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon Sales Halted due to Software Issues by GM

As of this week, the release of the 2024 Chevrolet Colorado and 2024 GMC Canyon has been postponed due to undisclosed software problems. General Motors has issued a stop-sale notice for both models, impacting approximately 15,000 trucks, none of which have been delivered to customers yet.

The wait should not be prolonged. According to Brandee Baker, the Vice President of Global Technology Communications at GM, the company has already acknowledged and started resolving the issue. As stated by Baker, the cars experienced occasional problems with software performance.

GM has had to halt sales for the second time within the span of three months. This decision was made after receiving complaints about software malfunctions in the Chevy Blazer EV, which coincidentally happened right before the holiday season. The electric SUV faced problems with its touchscreen and charging system, causing inconvenience for customers.

A statement from GM representative Kevin Kelly to the Detroit Free Press expressed the company’s “disappointment” over the halt of its sales. The car manufacturer is actively striving to strengthen its software division and enhance overall quality, by implementing fresh development and validation methods to guarantee readiness of the technology for consumers.

GM’s software endeavors have come under heightened scrutiny since their decision last year to do away with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in favor of their own embedded system. The company aims to minimize the potential for distraction from these existing platforms.

Car manufacturers have shown great enthusiasm in incorporating fresh software and technology into their automobiles, yet they have encountered some obstacles. More than half of the planned new vehicle releases since 2020 have been pushed back due to various issues, one of which is recurring problems with software.
