Nissan has recently announced that it will be rebranding the R35 chassis GT-R with the famous Skyline name. The new model, called the GT-R Skyline Edition, is a variant of the GT-R Premium trim level which boasts a modest 565 horsepower. However, what sets this version apart is its striking Bayside Blue color, previously exclusive to the highly revered R34 Skyline GT-R and the 50th Anniversary edition released in 2019.

The inside features a coordinating Sora Blue shade, creating an eye-catching blue-on-blue appearance that is rarely seen in contemporary equipment. The color Bayside Blue bears resemblance to the beloved Calsonic-sponsored racing Skylines from the 1990s, though not an exact match.

For those who may not be familiar, the current model of GT-R does not feature the iconic Skyline badge. This is due to the fact that the rest of the Skyline family lineup in Japan has moved away from using the R35 chassis. In fact, the more understated coupes and sedans carrying the Skyline name in their domestic market are built on the V35, V36, and V37 chassis (depending on the year) and are marketed in the US as the Infiniti Q50 and the now-defunct Q60.

The 2024 Nissan GT-R T-spec Takumi Edition is a unique variation of the GT-R model, created as a tribute to the skilled craftsmen responsible for manually assembling every engine in the GT-R. These talented workers, referred to as Takumi, have personally signed an etched plaque on each VR38DETT 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 engine since the debut of the R35 chassis.

The T-spec Takumi Edition pays tribute to the exceptional workers who have utilized their expertise to craft some of the most powerful engines ever produced in Japan. The introduction of a special trim dedicated to these hardworking individuals adds credibility to speculations that the R35 chassis is nearing its end in 2024.

The GT-R T-spec Takumi Edition is noteworthy for its stunning Midnight Purple paint, a beloved color among die-hard fans of the classic Skyline GT-R all around the globe. This particular hue is extremely rare, making it one of the most sought-after paint options for any Skyline GT-R. It was made available in three different variations, adding to its exclusivity. Upon seeing this T-spec Takumi, the author couldn’t help but notice its resemblance to the LX0 paint code, which under certain lighting conditions, can appear to have green undertones.

The latest T-spec Takumi Edition is equipped with a brand new Mori Green leather interior, possibly as a tribute to the slight presence of green in the striking Midnight Purple exterior. In terms of performance, the Takumi Edition features the elite carbon-ceramic brakes found in the high-performing GT-R NISMO model, along with NISMO-tuned Vehicle Dynamic Control. The front fenders have been extended to accommodate the dazzling gold-painted RAYS 20-inch forged alloy wheels. While there is no official price release at this time, it is anticipated that both the GT-R Skyline Edition and GT-R T-spec Takumi Edition will be available in extremely limited quantities this summer.
