2024 VW ID.4: Enhanced Power and Efficiency With Minor Price Increase

Electric crossover qualifies for complete $7,500 federal tax credit

In the 2024 edition, the Volkswagen ID.4 is set to undergo significant changes, primarily in the form of increased power and efficiency for models equipped with a larger battery pack. However, this upgrade will also result in a slight increase in price, along with various other updates throughout the lineup.

In the year 2024, the starting price for the ID.4 is now $39,735 for the Standard models featuring a 62 kWh battery – a rise of $740 from last year’s starting price of $38,995. The Pro models, which come with an 82 kWh battery, will begin at $44,875, representing an increase of $880 compared to the same trim level and battery size in 2023.

The cost of the remaining 2024 ID.4 range is still to be announced, but it is expected that there will be a general rise in prices for the latest models. It should be noted that the prices mentioned do not incorporate the additional $1,425 charge for destination and handling.

As previously stated, the ID.4 models equipped with the larger battery will offer improved performance and efficiency compared to the previous model, courtesy of the new APP 550 drive system. The rear-wheel-drive variants boast a maximum output of 282 horsepower, while the all-wheel-drive versions can deliver up to 330 hp.

The basic ID.4 Standard variant equipped with the 62 kWh battery will maintain its EPA-estimated range of 209 miles. On the other hand, the RWD ID.4 Pro, Pro S, and Pro S Plus models can achieve a maximum range of 291 miles on a single charge, which is a significant increase of 16 miles from the previous version. Additionally, the AWD versions of these models offer an improved range of 263 miles, boasting an 8-mile enhancement.

The 2024 ID.4 has some exciting new features, including an upgraded 12.9-inch screen with illuminated sliders. This addresses significant issues that plagued the previous model. Unfortunately, this display is only available on versions with the 82 kWh battery. These models also come with a redesigned climate control system and infotainment menu, as well as a relocated shifter and a revised steering wheel layout.

Additional features unique to the ID.4 equipped with the larger battery include ventilated seats in the front row for both the Pro S and AWD Pro S models. Meanwhile, the Pro S Plus and AWD Pro S Plus offer an upgraded Harman/Kardon audio system boasting nine speakers, a subwoofer, and a 16-channel amplifier for a premium sound experience.

The 2024 ID.4 AWD Pro models offer minimal exterior enhancements, with the only notable change being the addition of 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. On the other hand, the S Plus version features larger 21-inch machined alloy rims.

Although the cost may have risen for the year 2024, Volkswagen stands by its statement that all models of the ID.4 (featuring SK On batteries manufactured in Georgia) will qualify for the complete $7,500 federal tax credit – a rare opportunity among current vehicle options.

The 2024 ID.4 is manufactured at Volkswagen’s factory located in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The specific dates for customer and showroom deliveries will be revealed at a future time.
