In May of 2023, AC Cars revealed the much-awaited AC Cobra GT Roadster, a contemporary sports car that stays true to the essence of the original AC Cobra from the 1960s. Offered in both left and right-hand drive configurations, the fully compliant GT Roadster surpasses its predecessor with updated safety features, ergonomic design, and drivetrain. With impressive grand tourer capabilities, the GT Roadster stands out for its lightweight construction, utilizing a sophisticated extruded aluminum space frame chassis and a sleek carbon-composite body.
Nonetheless, in spite of its lightweight design, the GT Roadster features a robust 5.0-liter V8 motor, offered in both naturally aspirated and supercharged options. In its standard state without forced induction, the V8 generates an impressive 454 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque.
When boosted, the V8 motor provides a remarkable 654 hp of maximum power and 575 lb-ft of top torque, catapulting the GT Roadster to an impressive 0 to 60 mph in only 3.4 seconds. You can choose between two transmission choices: a six-speed manual or an innovative 10-speed automatic with paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel.
AC Cars is set to manufacture a limited number of only 250 units of the GT Roadster annually for international markets. The company also hopes to commence deliveries this year. What’s intriguing is that all available production spots for the revived AC Cobra have already been reserved for its first year of production. To bring their production plans to fruition, AC Cars has established a sizable 100,000 sq-ft plant on the southern coast of the United Kingdom.
The coastal location in the southern region already includes custom-built workshops, 3D printing technology, and specific assembly spaces, yet AC Cars is in the process of expanding the site to consolidate all essential skills and techniques into a single establishment. The company states that this will enable them to improve their manufacturing processes while also ramping up production.
AC Cars has recently widened its headquarters and research and development facilities at Donington Park in the United Kingdom. This renowned race track plays a vital role as the center for client trials and upcoming presentations, while also offering the potential for a driver training program and racing operations in the coming years.
AC Cars has officially announced the debut and introduction of their latest addition, the AC Cobra GT Coupe, to their existing line of AC Cobra GT vehicles. As production for the GT Roadster is already in progress, the GT Coupe marks a significant milestone as the very first version of the iconic AC Cobra to be crafted as a sleek coupe. Built on the same vehicle framework as its counterpart, the GT Coupe will showcase a stylish fixed head design.
AC Cars has stated that the GT Coupe will showcase equivalent performance qualifications, hinting at the possible presence of identical engine and setups. The GT Coupe will also share the same handcrafted interior and design elements as its counterpart, the GT Roadster. While it will match the specifications of the GT Roadster, it will provide the added convenience of a fully covered cockpit, which proves advantageous in unpredictable weather scenarios. Reservations for the Cobra GT Coupe are now open at AC Cars. As for the pricing, the automaker has not disclosed it yet, leaving us to anticipate how it will measure up against the expenses of a vintage AC Cobra.
