Acura’s 2024 MDX: Say Goodbye to Laptop-Style Touchpad and Hello to Traditional Touchscreen

As the new year begins, Honda, the parent company of Acura, has a promising vision for 2024. Numerous new models are set to be unveiled and current vehicles will undergo enhancements. Among them is the Acura MDX. This crossover will receive a facelift in the coming year with not only new body panels but also the replacement of Acura’s touchpad-based infotainment system.

The functionality of the system is comparable to that of a laptop. When you tap a specific area on the pad, it registers as a click on the corresponding spot on the infotainment screen. Once acclimated, the system proves to be satisfactory; however, employing one’s finger directly on the screen ultimately presents a more favorable solution, particularly while the vehicle is utilizing external programs like Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. This realization has likely dawned on Acura, resulting in the phasing out of the pad in the MDX model.

Several other Acura vehicles have already abandoned the old system. The recently released Integra, as well as the upcoming all-electric ZDX, both feature a touchscreen. In their product plans, Honda also revealed that they will be introducing a new Acura crossover at the entry-level. It is safe to assume that this model will also come equipped with a touchscreen.

During a discussion with Motor1, a representative from Acura chose not to give any input on the possibility of all upcoming vehicles from the brand abandoning the touchpad. However, it appears evident that this feature will be phased out. This conclusion can be drawn from the fact that all of the company’s recent models do not include this technology, leading one to believe that Acura will likely remove it in their future designs, including a potential revamp for the MDX.

Modifications to the MDX for 2024 also encompass a fresh top-of-the-line sound system by Bang and Olufsen, enhanced driver assistance functions, and integrated Google software that allows for effortless utilization of features such as Maps, Assistant, and the Play Store without the need to connect a smartphone. An official launch date for the updated MDX has not been disclosed by the company, but our speculation is that it will reach dealership lots sometime in the spring.
