Audi S8 Plus: Blast Past 190 mph on the Autobahn
When looking for a high-performance cruiser, you’d be hard-pressed to find better than an Audi S8. This low-key sedan was designed to zip through streets on the unrestricted autobahns of Germany, and if this AutoTopNL video is anything to go by, this past version of the S8 can go well beyond its given specs when in the right environment.
AutoTopNL recently conducted a thrilling experiment on the revered Autobahn in Germany, pushing the limits of their 2017 Audi S8 Plus. Testing for top speed, they were thrilled to achieve an astounding indication of 195 mph (315 kph); significantly surpassing the noted electric limitation of 189 mph (305 kph) stated by the manufacturer.
Equipped with a powerful twin-turbo V8 engine that churns out 605 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque, it comes as no surprise that the S8 Plus is able to travel at such velocities. Yet we are still taken aback by the fact that there does not seem to be any kind of restriction on its speed once it hits 305 kilometres per hour. Maybe the car utilises a distinct parameter apart from the speedometer reading, or perhaps there is no limitation whatsoever? Whatever the case may be, there is no doubt that we are quite impressed.
No one can deny the breath-taking power of this S8. What’s most impressive is its durability to keep on going! There was no need for the driver to take his foot off the gas as the car could go even faster, he simply had to brake in order to not catch up to the vehicles in front. This indeed exhibits the strength and capability of the Audi making us wish for it to reach its absolute full potential. We believe that if given a chance, this machine has the capacity to exceed 200 mph.
