Audi TT RS Roadster Breaks 173 MPH On Autobahn

Audi Discontinuing US Model in 2023

It came as no great surprise when Audi declared that the TT would be discontinued in the US after 2023. Their CEO suggested back in 2019 that the two-door motorcar was already on shaky ground and now it’s set to depart from the automotive arena, taking with it its original sporty peculiarity and formidable performance capabilities. Recently, a video appeared online showcasing the Audi TT RS Roadster reaching its maximum velocity while traveling down the Autobahn in Germany.

The Audi TT RS Roadster is furnished with the trademarked turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-five motor. This monster powerhouse generates 400 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque, providing power to all four wheels. Not only does the convertible accelerate from 0-62 in just 3.9 seconds, but it also has an officiated top speed of 155 miles per hour although there is an option bumping this up to 173 mph. A video further displays a speedometer reading beyond this – reaching 290 kph or 180 mph.

2023 is slated to be the last year for Audi in the US, and they’re not going out with any sort of big fanfare. However, the automaker did start off 2022 with a limited-edition Heritage Edition build of just fifty vehicles, and then recently announced that Japan will receive a special TTS Memorial Edition, only making one hundred. Furthermore, the UK is receiving a Final Edition, as it bore the brunt of the model’s global sales numbers during 2022 at over 30 percent.

In 1995, the Audi TT was met with considerable enthusiasm as it was first showcased to the public. Moving forward, the company began mass producing the vehicle four years later in 1998, with output amounting to over 178,000 units before ending the initial generation in 2006. To add more variety to a successful line up, Audi launched the TTS and TT RS during the second half of production, with the former arriving in 2008 and the latter following in 2009. Drivers could enjoy the power of 335hp when this particular model made its long summoned debut.

The ultimate instalment arrived in 2014. Audi downsized the mass whilst extending its strength, resulting in a product more effective than ever before. The strongest version of 2023 Audi TT available in the US is the TTS, with 288 horsepower created.
