Audi’s Affordable EV Promises Unmatched Sophistication

2027 Debut: Potential Q2 Model to Join Audi’s Electric Lineup beneath Q4 E-Tron

Audi has announced its intention to introduce a fresh, more accessible electric car in 2027. This model will position itself below the Q4 E-Tron, however Gernot Döllner, CEO of the company, refrained from revealing any further specifics about this forthcoming vehicle.

In an interview with Autocar, he stated that the upcoming EV would embody a “fantastic and distinctive independent vehicle concept.” While it is possible that it will be built on the MEB framework, Döllner confessed that Volkswagen has yet to finalize the platform for the vehicle. Further details such as battery capacity, composition, driving range, and performance specifications are expected to be revealed during its unveiling.

Audi is determined to expedite the progress of its car’s development in order to meet its scheduled launch in 2027. Along with other major automotive companies, Audi is becoming more cautious about the rising popularity of affordable Chinese electric vehicles, and is taking appropriate measures in response. In June of last year, CEO of VW Group, Oliver Blume, acknowledged that Audi was falling behind its competitors due to difficulties with software, and announced plans to accelerate the luxury brand’s electric vehicle production.

The corporation will manufacture its introductory model of electric vehicle in Ingolstadt, Germany, potentially under the name A2/Q2. Audi has designated even numbers for their electric vehicles and odd numbers for their traditional combustion engine cars. Though it is possible for a compact sedan to be produced, it is more probable that a compact crossover with the Q label will be released, as there is still high demand for elevated vehicle types among consumers.

The latest addition to Audi’s E-Tron lineup, the Audi Q6 E-Tron, made its debut this week alongside the E-Tron GT, Q4 E-Tron, and Q8 E-Tron models. While the introduction of an entry-level electric vehicle would add depth to the range, it is not expected to be available for purchase until three years from now, and the competition in the market will only become fiercer. Furthermore, there is a possibility that the Q6 E-Tron may not be offered in the US, and even if it does, it could come at a high price point. As for the current option, the 2024 Q4 E-Tron has a starting price of $56,395, which includes the $1,195 destination charge.
