Futuristic MG EXE181 electric hypercar poised to outshine rivals.
With the highly anticipated 2024 Beijing Motor Show on the horizon, MG Motor, the British car manufacturer now owned by a Chinese company, is already making waves. Recently unveiling images and information about their innovative EXE181 concept, MG is set to impress visitors at the event. Taking cues from classic aerodynamic designs, this new electric sports car not only boasts impressive speed but also showcases state-of-the-art technology.
The EXE181 has a futuristic design reminiscent of a video game, similar to Vision Gran Turismo concept cars. In terms of performance, this hyper-electric car is truly impressive. It can go from 0-62 mph in just 1.9 seconds, making it one of the quickest cars in the world. To put this into perspective, the Rimac Nevera achieves 0-60 mph in only 1.74 seconds. To achieve such speed, the Nevera has 1887hp available, indicating that the MG EXE181 will require over 1,000hp, likely distributed across four motors – one for each wheel, ensuring all-wheel drive capability. However, MG has not yet revealed details regarding the top speed of the EXE181.
Inspired by the EX181 land speed record car driven by racing legends Stirling Moss and Phil Hill in the late 1950s, the EXE181 showcases a teardrop-shaped monocoque that accommodates a single seat. This design not only pays tribute to its historical predecessor but also achieves an impressive low drag coefficient of 0.181, ranking it among the most aerodynamic vehicles globally. Despite its vintage influences, the EXE181 boasts a contemporary flair with sleek bodywork and a polished shell that encloses the driver in a central bubble cockpit. This configuration serves a functional purpose as well, with the car’s tail fin doubling as an airbrake for deceleration from high speeds.
Peeks inside the cabin and sneak peeks of technology, like a unique yoke-style steering wheel featuring a built-in touchscreen, hint at an innovative and futuristic driving experience influenced by racing. Although the chances of a mass production version are unclear, signs suggest that the EXE181 could be a remarkable limited edition model. Its premiere is expected to be a standout moment in Beijing.
