Bugatti Chiron Type 57: Fresh or Forced?

70th Birthday Gift: A Car for the Owner

The illustrious Sur Mesure program of Bugatti grants customers the capability to personalize their cars down to every minuscule detail. Exploring this realm is the extraordinary Chiron Super Sport 57 One of One which was constructed as a homage to the famous Type 57 SC Atlantic.

The tale behind this distinctive Chiron is remarkable. The operator first caught sight of one of the three Type 57 SC Atlantic variants at the Mullin Automotive Museum in Oxnard, California, and was overwhelmed by its smooth curves. Captivated, her husband determined to surprise her with a custom-ordered car for her 70th birthday, namely the 57 One of One. To make it even more special she went to Bugatti’s Molsheim headquarters to specify the exclusive auto.

“As we strolled by the scale model of the Type 57 SC – the first Atlantic that she had seen back in the day – Jascha Straub, the lead designer for Bugatti’s Sur Mesure line, sensed an immediate connection between us, and knew this was the right path to take,” recounted the visitor.

The Chiron Super Sport 57 One of One is an exclusive achievement featuring a light blue finish akin to the hue of the Atlantic Ocean. Its front grille stands out with shiny vertical ridges and a taller-than-normal upright at the center. At the back, the underbelly of the wing boasts a handcrafted outline of the original Type 57. The five-spoke Super Sport wheels come in a captivating combination of chrome polish and the car’s exterior color.

The interior of the cabin is uniquely adorned with Gaucho brown leather and catches sight of the Atlantic’s silhouette in its Lightning Blue embroidery on the door panels as well as the center console. The car company’s iconic Dancing Elephant badge stands out on each headrest of the seat, while Jean and Rembrandt Bugatti’s signed insignia is engraved onto the door sills.

The Sur Mesure initiative does not alter the Chiron Super Sport’s propulsion system. Its quad-turbo 8.0-liter W16 engine puts out a whopping 1,577 horsepower and produces 1,180 lb.-ft. of torque, thus granting it an electronically-limited peak velocity of 273 mph.

Bugatti is near the end of crafting the Chiron. According to October 2022 reports, there are only 100 left to construct from the run of 500 vehicles. Its replacement supercar will be unveiled in 2024, with manufacture commencing in 2026.
