Unveiling the Aston’s Debut: From Daytona to Formal Reveal
Do you recall the unveiling of the new Vantage at the 24 hours of Daytona? If not, you’re not alone. Aston Martin surprised us all when they secretly sent out the new Vantage GT3 on the track without any prior announcement or confirmation. However, the official launch has now taken place. Aston has not only disclosed extensive information about the upcoming street-legal Vantage, but also shed light on its race car counterpart.
The Vantage GT3 can essentially be described as a standard Vantage that has undergone extensive alterations for the purpose of participating in endurance races. These modifications include the installation of a roll cage within its bonded aluminum frame, replacement of traditional body panels with lightweight carbon fiber ones, and numerous other adjustments to ensure its readiness for intense track conditions.
Each and every vehicle in the GT3 division originates as a genuine production model, and the recently unveiled Vantage is no exception. While each car in this class has its own distinctive characteristics, their performances are surprisingly comparable. As mandated by regulations, the Aston boasts an identical base engine to its production counterpart, however it is deliberately tuned down to generate between 500 and 600 horsepower. Furthermore, all vehicles competing in the GT3 category must have a weight ranging from 1,200kg to 1,300kg.
The previous Vantage GT3 was a widely sought after choice for customer racing, and Aston predicts that the new iteration will follow in its footsteps. By 2024, the company anticipates a total of 30 vehicles participating in various circuits across the globe. This is partly due to the existing loyal customer base utilizing their cars, but also due to its eligibility for numerous racing series.
Although the formula has proven to be successful, the company acknowledged that the previous car had some “challenging” handling characteristics. However, these issues have been addressed in the new model. According to feedback from drivers who participated in an extensive development program, the car has received positive reviews. It has been described as having “no vices” and being extremely forgiving.
For those looking to witness the Vantage GT3 in motion, there are numerous chances to do so. In addition to its participation in the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship in the United States, it will also take part in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), the European Le Mans Series (ELMS), and the Nürburgring Langstrecken Series (NLS).
For now, you can join us in appreciating that enormous spoiler.
