Ford’s 1,400-HP SuperVan Shatters Lap Records at Bathurst with Blistering Speed

Surpassing Mercedes: The electric van’s speed reigns supreme on the racing track.

The Ford SuperVan 4.2 EV has added several more accolades to its already impressive list of achievements, as it clocked in impressive records at the Mount Panorama track this weekend. In addition to its previous accomplishments, the one-of-a-kind model now holds titles for the fastest closed-wheel vehicle, electric vehicle, and commercial model on the 3.85-mile Bathurst 500 circuit.

The SuperVan 4.2 achieved an impressive lap time of 1 minute and 56.3247 seconds, breaking records on the track. In comparison, Mercedes had previously celebrated setting a new fastest time at the Bathurst 500 event with their customized AMG GT3 completing a lap in 1:56.605 – only 0.2803 seconds behind Ford’s electric van.

Romain Dumas, a proven champion with two 24 Hours of Le Mans victories under his belt, piloted the SuperVan 4.2 all the way to the finish line. This is just one of many impressive accomplishments in his career, having also set records at prestigious events such as the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, Nürburgring Nordschleife, and Goodwood Festival of Speed Hillclimb while driving the Volkswagen I.D. R.

In the previous year, Dumas and the SuperVan 4.2 made history in the Open Class at the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb by finishing the 12.5-mile track in a record-breaking time of 8:47.682, surpassing the previous fastest time of 9:24.433. Additionally, the organization showcased the SuperVan 4.0 at the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The SuperVan 4.2 marks a significant advancement from its predecessor, the 4.0 model, featuring an upgraded carbon-fiber front splitter and rear spoiler for improved downforce. With three electric motors – one situated at the front and two at the back – the vehicle boasts a total output exceeding 1,400 horsepower. While drawing inspiration from the Ford e-Transit Custom, the revamped rear of the vehicle stands out with its enormous openings in the bodywork, setting it apart from any other road-worthy automobile you’ll come across.

The SuperVan 4.2 will make its appearance at the Adelaide Festival of Speed, running from March 15 to 17. Following this, it will be showcased at the Formula One Australian Grand Prix towards the end of the month.

According to a statement from Jay Ward, spokesperson for Ford Performance, “We do have more plans for [the project], but for the time being, these are confidential. However, you can be sure that we have some exciting ideas.”
