Land Cruiser 70: 40 and Still Rockin’!
We’ve been coveting the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series ever since the automaker announced it would continue to be available until 2024. The iconic off-roader, which celebrates its 40th anniversary next year, has also made its way to Japan. We’ve spotted the 70 Series in both five-door SUV and pickup truck configurations, but the one we really want is now being sold in the United Arab Emirates – the three-door SUV variant.
This is technically a Land Cruiser 71 with a wheelbase that is 2310mm shorter, or about 420mm shorter, than its five-door equivalent. Although it is considered an older model, Toyota has amended it over time and the current version now boasts modern features such as LED headlamps and a 9in infotainment system. Even though some countries consider this automobile unsafe according to their 2024 standards, it still includes two front airbags, lane departure warning, Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Brake Assist, and even a Pre-Collision System (PCS).
Although some of us weren’t even born when the go-anywhere SUV originally went on sale, Toyota has worked hard to keep the platform up to date. In the UAE, the “shorty” Land Cruiser boasts a hill-start assist, a tire pressure warning system, and daytime running lights. Complementing these features are power windows, central door locking, a driver’s digital display, and a tilt and telescoping steering wheel. To top it all off, the vehicle is equipped with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
At the core of the revamped three-door Land Cruiser lies a 4.0-liter V6 gasoline engine that is not turbocharged, producing 228 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. This power is then transferred to all four wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle is equipped with 16-inch alloys, 265/70 R16 tires, and a 23.7-gallon fuel tank.
Toyota is selling the Land Cruiser 71 for a price of 169,900 AED, which equates to 58,422 USD at today’s exchange rate. People can choose four shades (silver, off-white, cream, and grey) and its interior is intended only with five locations and a tan finish complete with synthetic leather upholstery. Making an investment in the Land Cruiser 71 today in the United Arab Emirates will result in its being shipped by the end of February 2024.
