Instagram Update: Driver Patrick Long Confirms Good Health

Last week, a heavily modified Porsche 911 from California-based resto-modder Gunther Werks suffered a severe crash while undergoing testing at Laguna Seca. A photo of the damaged car, which was a prototype for the company’s upcoming 750-horsepower 993 Turbo model, was shared by a user on the r/Porsche Subreddit. Gunther Werks took to Instagram to confirm the “incident” and assure followers that the driver involved is unharmed.

The company announced on Instagram that “Regrettably, the second day of testing had to be ended prematurely due to the GW Mule veering off-track and suffering damage. Despite this setback, we were able to reach our goals, record impressive times, and the damaged cars can be repaired. The lessons learned from this experience are invaluable.”

“We are thankful that everyone is safe and eagerly anticipate returning to headquarters to implement all the lessons we acquired this week in preparation for our upcoming track day.”

According to a Reddit user, the driver behind the wheel was none other than Patrick Long, a well-known Porsche factory driver and brand ambassador. We reached out to Gunther Werks for confirmation, but Long himself shared on his Instagram story that he was taking a much-needed break with his family. He reassured his followers that all is well. Long has a history of working with the company, and has previously been seen driving one of their cars at a Corkscrew hillclimb event at Laguna Seca.

Although the Gunther Werks Turbo utilizes a 993 body structure, the majority of its panels are constructed from carbon fiber. As reported by “Road & Track,” the vehicle commands a hefty price tag of approximately $1 million.
