Possible Arrival of Ioniq T10 this Year, But 7 Model Remains a Mystery
The much-anticipated Hyundai electric truck finally has a moniker. At least, that’s what it appears to be after a recent trademark application found by Drive.
The trademark search conducted by the Australian government revealed a filing for a model name, Ioniq T10. This particular name is categorized under Class 12, which is exclusively designated for automobiles such as cars, trucks, electric vehicles, and hybrids.
Although the trademark does not disclose further specifics, the title offers substantial information for speculation. Its association with the Ioniq lineup implies that this car will likely run on battery power. The numerical designation of ’10’ could indicate that it will hold the top spot within the Ioniq series. The exact magnitude is yet to be revealed, but it is possible that the Ioniq 7 will rival the dimensions of the Kia EV9.
It is quite uncommon for a letter to be added to the Ioniq model line, as none of the existing models such as the Ioniq 5 or Ioniq 6 have letters included in their names. It is logical to assume that the T could stand for ‘truck,’ implying the potential release of another Ioniq vehicle, perhaps the Ioniq 10, with a different design. Speculations hint at the possibility of a durable SUV named the Ioniq S10.
Although Hyundai has not explicitly stated its plans for a pickup truck, top executives have hinted at the possibility of introducing an electric pickup within this year. However, one of Hyundai Australia’s COOs, John Kett, has previously mentioned that a completely electric truck may not be plausible and could instead be introduced as a hybrid or plug-in hybrid variant.
The T10 is poised to compete with bigger trucks such as the Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Silverado.
What is the reasoning behind this statement? Another distinctive characteristic of the Ioniq T7 has been uncovered, indicating that Hyundai may be in the process of developing a direct competitor to the Ranger and Tacoma. Yet, it is plausible that this truck will be based on the Ioniq 7 SUV, ultimately positioning it as a rival to the Rivian R1T. Alternatively, the possibility exists that the Ioniq T7 could serve as an electric alternative for the Santa Cruz, a compact unibody truck currently vying with the Ford Maverick.
One important aspect to take note of is that Kia has a pickup truck in the works, known as the Tasman. Recently, test models of the Kia have been seen undergoing assessments in Korea, indicating that an official presentation may happen sometime later this year. The truck will come with standard gasoline and diesel motor options, but it is highly probable that electric and hybrid versions will also be added to the lineup in the future.
