Improved Performance and Charging for Ford E-Transit in 2024

New Battery-Electric Van Boasts 159-Mile Range

In commemoration of a decade of production in the United States, Ford is making significant changes to their all-electric E-Transit van, including improvements to its range and charging speed.After a successful ten-year run in America, the Ford Transit van is getting a makeover with new additions to the fully electric E-Transit version. Among these updates are enhancements to the vehicle’s driving distance and quicker charging capabilities.

According to Ford, their latest commercial vehicle now boasts an increased range of 159 miles on one charge, a significant improvement from the previous estimate of 126 miles. The 2024 model of the E-Transit is powered by an 89 kWh battery, a notable upgrade from last year’s version which only had a 68 kWh pack.

Despite staying the same in terms of performance, the E-Transit continues its journey with 266 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. However, the addition of dual onboard chargers brings the promise of faster charging abilities. This means that the E-Transit, specifically the cargo van low-roof body style, can now reach a maximum charging speed of 176 kW. By utilizing a DC fast charger for just 15 minutes, it can add up to 67 miles of range, which is a significant 49% improvement from its predecessor.

The 2024 E-Transit, equipped with Ford’s latest Pro Series 2 80A charging station, can be fully charged from 0 to 100% in six hours and 11 minutes. This is a reasonable amount of time for fleet managers who are considering purchasing this vehicle for their company. A business that has multiple E-Transits in its fleet could utilize the quick charging time to top up their vehicles within eight hours, allowing each one to complete two six-hour shifts per day.

If you’re interested in purchasing a commercial vehicle that is environmentally friendly and does not produce emissions, the improved E-Transit will soon be available for pre-order in the spring, followed by delivery shortly after. The 2024 model of the E-Transit will have a listed price of $51,095. It should be mentioned that the 2023 E-Transit starts at $45,995 for the Cutaway variant and $49,995 for the cargo van.

Ford has announced that the latest model of the E-Transit may come with a hefty price tag. However, they have also revealed that it could potentially be eligible for the $7,500 Commercial Clean Vehicle Tax Credit, which would significantly decrease the overall cost. This news should come as no shock, as the E-Transit has quickly become the preferred choice for electric van buyers in the United States.

A notable upgrade poised to bring advantages to all owners of Ford electric vehicles is the company’s decision to utilize the Tesla NACS charging system. This move means that purchasers of the Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning, and E-Transit can now obtain a free NACS adapter, giving them access to over 15,000 Superchargers located in both Canada and the United States.

According to Ford, the ideal charger for vehicles such as the E-Transit is the Pro Series 2 80A. It efficiently utilizes the battery’s power output to enable faster charging. For those charging at home overnight, a Series 2 48A charger is recommended. This system includes interchangeable cables and cellular connectivity, eliminating the need for Wi-Fi. Customers will be able to order this system by mid-2024.

Apart from the battery-operated variation, Ford is additionally experimenting with hydrogen-powered fuel-cell editions in the United Kingdom.

Ever since production began in April of 2014, over 1.2 million Transit vans have been manufactured at the Kansas City Assembly Plant. According to Ford, a staggering 99% of Transits sold in the past ten years are still in operation.
