GM’s Flint Assembly delays shift for NFC Championship game viewing.
It is difficult to bring down a car manufacturing plant, especially when it specializes in producing highly lucrative heavy-duty pickup trucks. Factors such as supply complications, labor strikes, and the unprecedented occurrence of a pandemic are typically what can disrupt operations. However, a new addition to this series of potential obstacles could be a football game.Recently, a prominent car factory encountered unexpected delays due to a major football game taking place near their facility. The influx of traffic and security measures caused disruptions in the plant’s usual rhythm, leading to setbacks in production. Fortunately, the company was able to quickly address the issue and resume operations, but the incident highlighted the vulnerability of even the most successful businesses to unexpected events.
According to a news report by The Detroit News, GM has decided to postpone the start time of one of its shifts at the Flint Assembly on Sunday in order for employees to be able to watch the Detroit Lions play in the NFC Championship game. Typically, this particular shift would begin at 9:45 PM on Sunday, but it will now be pushed back an hour to 10:45 PM to allow workers to (hopefully) catch the end of the game, which starts at 6:30 PM.
Flint Assembly, the sole Michigan-based GM facility that operates on Sundays, is responsible for producing the immensely significant and massive Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD pickups. In a statement to the Detroit News, a GM representative stated, “We are fully aware of the unique occurrence in Detroit sports history and we want our team to relish in this moment, while also ensuring that we continue to meet the demands of our customers and dealers for these trucks.” It is safe to assume that this statement was made with a hint of humor.
This marks the Lions’ inaugural appearance in the NFC Championship since 1992. They are set to compete against the San Francisco 49ers at Levi’s Stadium in an away match. A win would propel them to the Super Bowl for the first time in 64 years, a significant event for the football-crazy state of Michigan.
