Driving for Hertz Team Jota: Oliver, Phil, and Him
The extensively-enlarged WEC field will witness the comeback of ex-Formula 1 titleholder Jenson Button to the racing scene. Reported by Motorsport, the 43-year-old British competitor will be racing full-time in a Hertz Team Jota Porsche 963.
“I’m ecstatic to be driving the #38 hypercar with Hertz Team Jota in the 2024 World Endurance Championship,” said Button. “It’s going to be a great experience to have Oliver Rasmussen and Phil Hanson as my teammates.”
Notably, the Porsche 963 LMDh race cars used by Hertz Team Jota will be adorned with a golden livery, designed by Singer – a company renowned for its iconic revamps of the classic Porsche 911.
Button was anticipated to join up with ex-Formula One champion Sebastian Vettel; however, now the driver arrangement is settled, it appears the discussion between Vettel and the squad went off the rails. Ex-Formula One driver Robert Kubica was likely expected to be in contention for the team as well, though he will apparently race in a Ferrari 499P for AF Corse.
The 2020 season might have experienced the departure of race teams such as Glickenhaus Racing, but it is sure to bring in energizing fresh contenders; the Lamborghini Iron Lynx will be amongst them, debuting a Lamborghini SC63 model at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. Additionally, BMW M Team WRT plan to run two M Hybrid V8s.
Button is going to be straining at the wheel of his Porsche 963 with the aim of earning success, including the illustrious 24 Hours of Le Mans. This will follow his drive in a modified Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 that he accomplished with Garage 56 at the 2023 Le Mans. With Toyota GR010 Hybrid and Ferrari 499P performing mightily in the same race, this will prove to be an extremely tough challenge for Button.
“Endurance racing is all about teamwork, and there’s no better team to do it than Hertz Team Jota, who will be taking on the big manufacturers in the Hypercar class. With their experience and skill, they are sure to make their mark in this highly competitive arena.”
Prior to the opening of the WEC calendar at Qatar in March, Button will compete alongside WRT Andretti with an Acura ARX-06 LMDh within IMSA’s inaugural Daytona 24 Hour race.
