Land Rover Limits Wheel Size to Maximum of 23 Inches.

Excess is simply futile.

JLR, previously called Jaguar Land Rover, has stated that it is unable to exceed 23 inches when it comes to wheel size for its customers.

During an interview with Car Throttle, JLR’s Vehicle Engineering Director, Matt Becker, was asked about the possibility of a 24-inch carbon fiber wheel option for customers in the near future. In response, Becker stated, “You wouldn’t want to go much bigger than that. I don’t see many 24-inch wheels. 23 seems to be about the limit.” This statement highlights Becker’s belief that 24-inch wheels may not be the most practical or desirable option for customers, with 23 inches being the maximum size he envisions for wheels.

The obvious response was a negative one, but Becker offered valuable information about the current 23-inch carbon fiber choice for the Range Rover Sport SV. In the United States, the 23-inch gloss dark tint carbon fiber wheels are an additional $10,150, however they are included as standard if you select the Carbon Bronze package, which also includes carbon ceramic brakes and various exterior and interior design elements.

Although they come at a steep price, there is an extraordinary demand for these particular wheels.

“We are working tirelessly to produce the carbon wheels at a rapid pace,” stated Jamal Hameedi, brand director of SV. “The demand has been unprecedented.” This should come as no shock, considering the Sport SV is the highest-tier model, boasting a powerful BMW M engine that allows it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds.

One of the advantages of purchasing carbon fiber wheels is a reduction in unsprung weight. These wheels can decrease 20 pounds on each corner and are highly resistant to heat generated by the brakes. Land Rover also claims that these wheels enhance both handling and ride comfort, making them essential for those who frequently drive their high-performance SUVs. Additionally, if you choose to pair them with carbon ceramic brakes, you can save an additional 75 pounds.

What is the maximum wheel size allowed? Despite claims from various car manufacturers, it seems that 23 inches is not the ultimate limit. The highly anticipated Silverado EV is set to offer 24-inch wheels, and the revolutionary Escalade IQ will come equipped with a standard set of 24s. In addition, both the forthcoming Tahoe and Suburban models will provide customers with the choice of 24-inch options.

Finding the perfect equilibrium between a sizable, eye-catching wheel and satisfactory ride smoothness is no easy task. With the prevalence of 20-inch wheels a decade ago, auto engineers began implementing various suspension techniques in order for drivers to enjoy both large rims and a comfortable ride. Achieving a harmonious combination of a hefty, attention-grabbing wheel and adequate ride comfort requires significant effort. Back in the days when 20-inch rims were highly popular, car manufacturers resorted to utilizing numerous suspension tactics to enable customers to enjoy the appeal of larger wheels without compromising on ride quality.

However, size does not always equate to quality when it comes to wheels. Opting for a 24-inch wheel may seem appealing at first glance, but it presents limitations such as limited room for a tire with adequate side profile. This can greatly affect the overall ride experience and the ability to maintain good grip on the road. In addition, larger wheels also occupy more space and come with a higher manufacturing cost. While the option for bigger wheels may always be available, it may not always be the wisest choice, especially if they are made from carbon fiber materials.
