Leaked: MG Electric Roadster Specs

Electric Motors: Record Top Speed of 124 mph

The introduction of teasers for the MG Cyberster electric sports car in 2022 yielded great anticipation; however, news since then has been relatively scarce. Subsequently, a filing sent to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has provided us with a much clearer perspective on the soon-to-come roadster as well as significantly more technical information about it.

This data indicates that the Cyberster boasts a front electric motor capable of producing a rated power output of 101 hp (75 kW) and a peak of 201 hp (150 kW). Additionally, the engine at the back yields an average of 215 hp (160 kW), with a maximum of 335 hp (250 kW). This allows the automobile to reach a top velocity of 124 mph (200 km/h). Unfortunately, no information has been provided regarding the battery.

In regard to its physical proportions, the Cyberster stretches 178.5 inches (4,535 mm) in length, 75.31 inches (1,913 mm) across the breadth, and rises 52.32 inches (1,329 mm) above ground. Additionally, its wheelbase is 105.9 inches (2,690 mm). By comparison, a 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata is slightly smaller on each parameter measuring 154.1 inches long, 68.3 inches wide, and 48.8 inches tall while possessing a 90.9 inch wheelbase.

The Chinese report records the mass of the Cyberster as 4,376 pounds (1,985 kg). On the flip side, a 2023 Miata tips the scales at 2,341 pounds with a manual gearbox, or 2,403 pounds with an automatic transmission.

The renown of MG is well-established thanks to its roadsters such as the T-series, MGA and MGB, along with the nineties nostalgic F. With the exception of being two-seaters and a removable lid, Cyberster’s design hasn’t quite taken discernible cues from any of those classic autos. Its styling features edgy contours that run in curving lines down the wide bonnet and continue to the doors.

At the rear, the taillights are designed in an arrow-like shape. An arresting diffuser runs down the bottom section.

The pictures also indicate some of the potential opportunities that MG has planned. There is a variety of color choices when it comes to the convertible top; black and red being among them. Customers can pick between multiple wheel designs, in addition to varied decoration for their insignia.

Unfortunately, there is no visual documentation available documenting the interior.

It is yet to be determined when the Cyberster will be formally revealed. However, information and imagery delivered by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology reveal that the vehicle has made considerable progress in terms of its production.

Previous reports indicated that the Cyberster is likely to launch in 2024. Recently, in 2021, over 5,000 people in China disbursed proportions equal to $155 to register a Cyberster.
