Stylish Color Scheme Elevates Compact Sports Car’s Aesthetic
MG recently announced the launch of a unique and exclusive version of their popular electric sports car, the Cyberster. Dubbed the Red Top Edition, it bears a striking resemblance to the iconic color combination of the Mazda MX-5 Miata 100th-anniversary edition. The Red Top Edition features a vibrant red exterior with contrasting black accents, giving it a sleek and sporty look. It also boasts a number of upgrades such as larger alloy wheels and a more powerful engine, setting it apart from the standard model. The inspiration behind this limited edition release is clear, as both MG and Mazda have a reputation for producing stylish and high-performance vehicles. The Red Top Edition serves as a tribute to this shared passion for automotive excellence. Fans of the Mazda MX-5 Miata will also appreciate the similarities between the two cars, as the Cyberster’s retro design pays homage to classic roadsters like the Miata. The new edition certainly adds an exciting twist to the already popular electric vehicle, making it a must-have for car enthusiasts. With its eye-catching appearance and impressive features, the MG Cyberster Red Top Edition is sure to make a statement on the road. Keep an eye out for its release, as it is expected to generate a lot of buzz
There is a common belief that Mazda took inspiration from the MGB when designing the first MX-5 Miata, therefore it’s not surprising to notice resemblances between the two brands and their sports cars. The Cyberster special edition’s aesthetic draws inspiration from the MGA, MGB, and MG Magnette’s color combinations, although there are also other similarities to the Miata.
The MG Cyberster Red Top Edition is a coincidental addition to MG’s 100th anniversary festivities, featuring an elegant pearl white exterior and a striking red convertible roof. The vibrant rooftop perfectly complements the bold red braking calipers, which can be seen through the intricate turbine-style wheels.
In a fitting manner, MG has announced the release of a limited edition consisting of only 100 units. The special edition will come in three different trims, with prices ranging from ¥319,900 to ¥359,800 (equivalent to $45,107 to $50,733 in today’s exchange rates). It seems that the modifications are purely for visual appeal, suggesting that the powertrain choices may remain unchanged.
The entry-level model of this vehicle features rear-wheel drive and is equipped with a single-motor configuration, capable of producing 310 horsepower when paired with a 64 kWh battery. Opting for the larger 77 kWh battery will give you a boost in power to 335 hp, resulting in a lightning-fast sprint time of just 4.9 seconds for 0-60 mph. However, this increase in performance comes at the cost of sacrificing range, with a CLTC-rated distance of 580 kilometers (360 miles). So, if speed is your top priority, you must be willing to compromise on range.
With a 77 kilowatt-hour battery and two powerful motors, the all-wheel-drive option boasts an impressive 536 horsepower and 535 pound-feet of torque. This allows for a swift 0-60 mph acceleration in just 3.2 seconds. However, this increased power and weight do come at a cost – the range is reduced to 520 kilometers (323 miles) due to higher energy consumption.
In the event that the MG Cyberster is introduced into the American market, anticipate reduced range numbers due to differences in CLTC standards, which are more lenient compared to those of the EPA.
Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that we will see the introduction of the EV version of the MG model in the near future. This is due to the fact that the MG brand is owned by Chinese automaker SAIC Motors, and tensions between China and the US are currently causing trade difficulties. However, there is some good news on the horizon, as Porsche is expected to release an electric roadster based on the 718 design in the coming year.
