Upgrade your 2018-2022 Accord model with a sweet new feature.
Honda is providing a significant enhancement to the quality of life for those who own 2018-2022 model Accord sedans. This upgrade, installed by dealers, offers wireless compatibility with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
About 631,000 Accords in the United States have the option to be outfitted with this enhancement for a low cost of only $112, not including installation fees. Nevertheless, cars that are certified by Honda as pre-owned are entitled to receive the upgrade at no extra expense.
The additional function allows users to integrate their mobile devices with the car’s infotainment system, eliminating the need for a cord that takes up space inside the vehicle. This feature permits individuals to easily access their phone’s apps, music, navigation, and virtual assistants without any physical contact and without having to retrieve their device from their pocket.
Honda has stated that this effort is a crucial aspect of their mission to achieve carbon neutrality by the year 2050. As part of this goal, they are implementing fresh and inventive elements to support sustainability. This approach aims to maximize the “lifetime value of in-market Honda vehicles” by encouraging owners to keep their cars for an extended period of time. Consequently, these updates will not only benefit current owners but also those who acquire the vehicle as second or even third owners, enhancing their overall ownership experience.
A potential consequence of this could also be an influx of new customers in the second-hand sedan industry, which has been declining due to the growing popularity of crossovers and SUVs.The automotive market for second-hand sedans is considered to be weakening as more and more people are drawn towards purchasing crossovers and SUVs.
Numerous car manufacturers have eliminated sedans from their current series, such as Ford, prioritizing SUVs and crossovers. In contrast, Honda has persisted in producing sedans, despite the fact that the Accord has already been discontinued in its native country of Japan.Although multiple automakers have opted to remove sedans from their existing range, Ford being one of them, and instead concentrate on SUVs and crossovers, Honda has chosen to continue producing sedans. Interestingly, even though the Accord model has been discontinued in its home country, Japan, Honda has not wavered in its commitment to this type of vehicle.
General Motors recently announced their decision to discontinue the integration of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in their vehicles, however Honda, along with their luxury and performance division Acura, have made it clear that they will continue to include these features in their future electric vehicles (EVs) that are based on Ultium technology.
“Through this efficient software update, our customers can now fully utilize the existing hardware in their Honda vehicles to access wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto without any disruptions,” stated Jay Joseph, the vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc.’s Sustainability & Business Development Division.
“Maintaining our goal of achieving zero environmental impact by 2050, enhancing the ownership experience and market value of existing Honda vehicles is a crucial strategy.”
